PostPosted: Mon Sep 25, 2006 12:57 pm    Post subject: Vphone w/sprint wireless broadband problem Reply with quote Back to top

I will start off some some relevant information.
I have run the speed test and everything checks out with a slight warning to upload speed being on the low side but its not a problem.
also for the record I have gotten my Vphone to work over the sprint wireless broadband (cell phone) card. Which is a PCMICA card for my laptop.
The problem is, the Vphone doesn't work right on my laptop.
The only way I've been able to make calls is using my desktop computer which is actually connected to my Laptop via Cat 5 lan cable which is using Internet connection sharing to access the laptops PCMICA wireless connection.

The problem in which I am having is the audio I am receiving from the Vphone cuts on and off repeatedly in half second increments, half second audio half second nothing, so I can only hear about 50% of the incoming voice.

Which brings me to only a few conclusions. One being that there must be some sort of hardware conflict between the Vphone and the PCMCIA card (they are both binding to the USB drivers), or Two there must be some setup wrong with the TCP/ip settings, receive, MTU, etc.

Steps i've taken:
I tired running the TCP optimizer program, but it doesn't list my sprints connection or IP address as a possible hardware device to modify.
The 4 USB devices listed all have different IRQ's listed except for 2 of them which share IRQ 17. The option to change the IRQ is grayed out and I am unsure how to modify these values to try and remove IRQ sharing of the two devices. I also so not know which IRQ the Vphone and PCMCIA card are on as it doesn't list them device using them only the USB port numbers and such..

Help I request:
A way to resolve any hardware conflicts known or unknown (ideas that may help).
Alternatives (software phone) with the question being how can i just have a software phone with 0 devices (i don't want multiple lines).
And software/firmware that may resolve these issues.

additional info:
I have tried the Wifi phone F1000, but i received a defective unit and had to return it. I would prefer not to try that again. I'm on the verge of canceling my Vonage. I only got it so I could have a portable phone service that could travel with my laptop, but it if is not going to work with the laptop, no point. I have had less than optimal results with Vonage technical support lines unfortunately Sad.

Thank you all for reading and any assitance you may offer.

hi HellTriX
i read u comments i understand the problem with your wireless card..& with the Vonage v/phone..and let me tell u one thing if u use wireless internet u will have a little delay in u audio..and u may also have problem with the droped calls..so what u need to do is u need to check with your upload and download speed ..bec Vonage req a min of 90kbps..and if have any firewall please disable it..bec the udp ports are block by the firewall so do a dmzzzzzzzzz..or do a portforwarding..OUTGOING Ports

DNS: Port 53 UDP (Domain Name Server - for resolving server IP addresses)

TFTP: Ports 21, 69, 2400 UDP (for profile upgrades/downgrades)

HTTP: Port 80 UDP (for firmware upgrades/downgrades)

NTP: Port 123 UDP (Network Time Protocol - so the device can sync to the proper time for Caller ID)

SIP: Port 5061 UDP (used for older Vonage devices provisioned before 2005. Also, BSP Proxy Groups 1-8, and a.voncp.com communicate on port 5061.)

INCOMING and OUTGOING Ports

RTP (Voice) Traffic: Ports 10000-20000 UDP. When a call is made, a random port between 10000 and 20000 is used for RTP (Voice) traffic. If any of these ports are blocked, the customer may experience one way or no audio. (Please note that port forwarding will not resolve issues where the audio is getting through, but sounds poor.)

If you would like to read more about port forwarding, please visit www.portforward.com.
