PostPosted: Thu Sep 21, 2006 5:34 pm    Post subject: Preference between PAP2 v.1 or v.2? Reply with quote Back to top

Hm, I'm pretty sure that subject line will be sufficiently descriptive. My Best Buy appears to have both versions of the PAP2 available. I'm wondering if I should choose one over the other. It will be running behind a WRT54G v.2 running Thibor 14, if that matters, but I doubt it does, from what I've read.

Thanks for any help!

From this forum vonage-forum.com/ftopic15057.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="postlink">here:

The differences between the two devices are this:

Code:
Hardware | PAP2 (Sipura) | PAP2 Ver.2 (TI)
Processor | ESS3890 | TI V1015
SLIC | SI3210 | LE88221
SDRAM | 2 Mbytes | 16 Mbytes
Flash Memory | 1 Mbytes | 8 Mbytes
Power supply | External, 5V DC, 2A | External, 12V DC, 1.0A
Reset button | No | Yes
LEDs | Multiple LEDs | Multiple LEDs
Ringer Frequency | 10~40 Hz | 16~68 Hz
Ring Voltage | 60~90 volts | 45~90 volts
Software | PAP2 (Sipura) | PAP2 Ver.2 (TI)
image(s) | Single Image | Dual Images
IVR | Yes | Yes
Encryption | N|A | SIP|TLS (Future)
Regulatory | PAP2 (Sipura) | PAP2 Ver.2 (TI)
Certifications | FCC, UL, cUL, CE, ICES-003 | FCC, UL, cUL, CE, ICES-003
RoHS (Europe) | none-RoHS | RoHS compliant
Features | PAP2 (Sipura) | PAP2 Ver.2 (TI)
Maxiringer Load | 3 REN | 5 REN
Provisioning | TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS | TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS
Multi-Level Access | Password protected Administration | Enhance Multilevel Access
Syslog | Limited Syslog msgs | Syslog Improvements
T.38 FAX | No | Yes

I would personally go with the PAP2v2 as they are both generally the same device but the PAP2v2 is the upgraded version with better internal hardware. The v2 has an external reset button, while the v1 does not which in some cases can save you from needing a new device if you accidentally make an incorrect change in the device config. Also, another thing to keep in mind is the REN difference, this will specify how many phones you will be able to plug into the PAP2 and still have them all ring/work. So, if you are going to be using home wiring you would definitely want the v2. In my opinion the v2 is the overall better choice.
