PostPosted: Thu Sep 21, 2006 2:47 pm    Post subject: Caller ID does not work consistently on my RTP300? Reply with quote Back to top

Caller ID worked fine up until sometime in the last couple of weeks. Now 99% of the time I get "Incomplete Data". If I restart the the phone adapter, Caller ID seems to work for a while (anywhere from a couple of hours to a day), but it ultimately stops working and I get the "Incomplete Data" again. Is anybody else experiencing the same issue? Could it be the firmware version that is on my phone adapter? Mine is running: 1.01.07

Thanks!

1.01.7 appears to be brand new, and may be the cause of your trouble.

My WRTP54G (same as your RTP300, but with wireless) has had no problems with caller ID, but I'm still on 1.00.62.

I'm running 1.01.7 and no problems with CID. However, whenever there is a firmware upgrade, some portion of the population somehow seems to end up with either a CID or VM problem.

Right, we've been through this before.

F2racer, are you hooked into home wiring? If so, see what happens if you plug just one phone/CID unit into the RTP300? That made a big difference the last time we went through this with firmware.

I'm not hooked up to the home wiring. I've got a multi-handset wireless setup plugged directly into the phone adapter.

BTW, I've also notice that I'm getting a fair bit more background static recently. Nothing that would impede a conversation, but definitely noticable and annoying, especially if I use the speakerphone. Is this also the result of the recently pushed firmware?

Try using a simple, wired telephone with caller ID. If caller ID starts working and the static goes away, then you have a new source of interference. If it doesn't, then it's more likely to be your RTP300 (and possibly related to the new firmware).

You can also call Vonage and ask them to move your firmware back to 1.00.62, but I'd make sure it isn't simple interference first.

Well, I spoke way too soon. CID was been out on my phones since last night. Grrr. I'll just wait for the next release.

I've enjoyed Vonage for almost a year now, and in the past few days my CID went out. So I called tech support, we booted, rebooted and booted again the cable modem and the RTP300. Now the CID somewhat works, but the phone will not ring for incoming calls. Also my fax console on my computer won't pick up. I have never had that problem and have been able to send and receive faxes with no problem until the past few days. It seems as thought I am still able to send out faxes, but it just won't recognize the call when it comes in. Any help would be great, I am not a computer techie but I would really like to have my phone in working order.

I believe there were a ton of known issues with the latest firmware including CallerID, DNS Relay, Port Forwarding and Static. If you call Vonage they should be able to roll the firmware on your device back for you until a new version comes out.
