I think my problem is with Sprint, but does anyone regularly forward their Vonage number to a Sprint cell number and have problems with voicemail picking up almost instantly? I have my number forwarded, but my cell phone's voicemail usually picks up before my cell phone even rings.

Do you have a # of rings or seconds set b4 going to voicemail?

Reading

Forward incoming calls to a US (including Puerto Rico) or Canadian number of your choice.

How To Use To configure Call Forwarding, complete the following steps:

Click the "Features" link on your Dashboard.
Go to the Call Forwarding section.
Select the line for which calls will be forwarded.
Click the Configure button.
Select the number of seconds the phone will ring.
Enter the phone number to where calls will be forwarded.
Click the "Activate" button.
Click "Enable" to activate the Call Forwarding.

I have the SimulRing setup, and if unanswered for 15 seconds will forward to Vonage voicemail. The problem is that Sprint voicemail picks up the call almost instantly, never really allowing a ring to my cell phone.

You've seen this or tested it from a third number (not your Vonage number or your Sprint phone), right? Because if you use your Sprint phone to call your Vonage number in this senario, it would roll immediately to your Sprint voicemail, and that would be normal behavior.

For Multiple Numbers with SimulRing click the SimulRing Tab.
Enter up to 5 numbers you wish to have you Vonage line ring to.
Click "Enable" to activate the Call Forwarding.

Think

Forwarded calls go to Vonage Voicemail if the forwarded number is not picked up (either by a person or the forwarded number’s voicemail) within the time set in your voicemail web account (default of 30 seconds). If the number you forwarded to picks up the call in less time than your Vonage voicemail, the message will be left at the forwarded number.

For example, your Vonage voicemail is set to pick up after 15 seconds and the number you have forwarded to, your cell phone, has a voicemail setting of 15 seconds. When someone calls your Vonage phone number the call is forwarded to your cell phone and after 15 seconds if you do not answer the call on your cell phone your cell phone voicemail picks up. The call was unable to return to the Vonage voicemail system because your cell phone voicemail system answered it already.

Your voicemail is automatically set to answer forwarded calls when the forwarded number is busy or the call is unanswered. The amount of time it takes for the call to go to voicemail depends on your voicemail settings. So if your voicemail is set to 15 seconds, when a call is forwarded, it will go to voicemail if it is not answered in 15 seconds. Voicemail is disabled or reconfigured using the Web Account.

I have Sprint PCS and have my Vonage line transferred to my cell in case Vonage goes down. It has only happened once in a year and a half and it worked fine.

I have seen numerous cases of T-mobile and Sprint cell phones going right to voicemail when called from a Vonage phone. This would also effect any call forwarding happening to a T-mobile or Sprint number. The calls are completing, so it is doesn't appear to be a problem with the Vonage network I would think.

It sounds like the trouble here is that Sprint is immediately sending the call to voice mail. They pretty much "always" do that if the phone is out of coverage or turned off. They may do that if the phone is busy - though you may want to check your call waiting settings to change that (longer call waiting will give Vonage the time to assume ring-no answer).
