I'm trying to get this up and running without having to use my router, as it seems to routinely drop my internet access ( not the phone though ) and I continually have to reboot the SMC Router.
I had an old switch laying around so I thought I'd give it a try, since my Shaw HighSpeed service provides customers with 2 dynamic IP addresses per line. The 8100_IP will not work at all for me. Plugged into the WAN port, it won't even light up like it has a connection. My computers works fine ( in all the ports, and with both cables ) and if I plug the LAN port into my switch, I can login to the Vonage router and look around at the settings. I tried release/renew but it doesn't work, mostly because it doesn't even register a connection.
Attached to the switch by iteself, so in essence being the only device able to obtain an IP, it still will not even light the connection up. Its very strange, as I thought for sure I'd get at least a yellow problem light on the switch or the phone. As far as my switch is concerned, the WAN port on the phone isn't even there.
Anyone else try this with a 2 IP provider? Maybe I need to contact Shaw to get them to release the second IP, but the fact the WAN port doesn't even register on the switch isn't promising.
I searched, but most problems with the switch setup revolve around not having to IP's available, that shouldn't be my limitation, but it definitly isn't working.
