Maine. I'm not sure why it is so high, though we went through the usually well-thought-of and poorly-thought-out process of "deregulation", which is apparently Latin for "let the power company charge anything they want". When you only have one power delivery company, and three suppliers, there's not enough competition to really make deregulation work, IMHO, but it was politically popular. No doubt especially among the power company lobbyists.

There's also the problem of small population over large areas, and other factors.

Up until now I have had my router connected to a switch that allowed me to created VLANS the router was on a public VLAN and my pc's on a private VLAN which is firewalled. I guess the router (RTP300) is going behind the firewall so that the updates can't get thru......I have been complaining for about two weeks about this problem (static on port 2) and never did anyone at Vonage fess up to the firmware. ARGH!!!! It took me poking around the Internet to find out that was the issue. I called them as soon as I read this thread and the rep very willingly reverted me back to 1.00.62. Now it goes behind the firewall. GRRRR......pisses me off to think I have lived with the problem for weeks and it was as simple as that.

I haven't seen any discussion on the new firmware lately. My WRTP54G is still on 1.00.62, which probably means I should be grateful. Very Happy

Has Vonage stopped pushing this firmware due to the problems that have been reported?

No one has mentioned that this firmware upgrade affects the WRTP54G, which is admittedly odd since the RTP300 and WRTP54G are basically the same router.

Given that the RTP300 seems to have lost even more routing capability, I presume they added a bunch of new Voip code that eats up even more memory. The WRTP54G is already pretty severely memory constrained as it is, it is quite possible the new Voip code won't fit into the WRTP54G.

Or maybe Vonage made the RTP300 folks the guinea pigs for this upgrade, and we'll be next.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of CyberTAN? Wink

Does anyone know what this firmware update was supposed to FIX, if anything? Has anyone noticed any actual things fixed with this firmware version or is it just to make people irritated?

All I can say is for God's sake... keep a detailed log of every communication you have with Vonage's Tech Support!

Tonight I received an e-mail for my monthly bill... $73.99! I tried calling Tech Support but they disabled my device. Turns out that even though I received an e-mail from "Bonnie B." at Tech Support on 10/3 confirming that she had cancelled the RA for my RTP300, she in fact DID NOT. Even though I sent their replacement Motorola back under a different RA number (and they confirmed the have it), Vonage still switched my account to the Motorola device.

Why does it take over 10 minutes to transfer a call? Why do I always have to provide my account details and describe my problem with each "level" of support?

After 32 billable minutes on my cell phone and three transfers, I finally had to hang up (cell phone minutes aren't free, ya' know). I booted my work laptop and called back using their corporate Voip network. After hassling with the first level monkey who answered the phone, he finally conceded to transferring me to 2nd level. A message greeted me to let me know that I'll have at least a 15-minute wait time. Aaaarrrggghhh!

25 minutes later, some poor gal answered the phone to talk with me. I wove my tale yet again to bring her up to speed and save some time. She checked my account and it didn't show any devices assigned to my account. In fact, there was the RA for my Linksys device (that I was billed for), the RA for the Motorola I sent back, and a THIRD RA for the same Motorola (she verified it was for the same serial number). This meant that some tool con customer service set me up to get charged for the same deivce TWICE.

In the end, Vonage has consumed 1.5 hours of my life tonight because of their inept customer service. And what do I have to show for it? A pending refund of $73.99, a ticket number for my device to be re-activated within 24 hours and a higher blood pressure. <sigh> Tell me again why I changed from Ameritech?

Because that $73.99 was about one month's bill before and, even if you had to eat it, you'd make it up in two months anyway.

Yeah, their tech support basically ****. But I guess if I paid them more than $27/month they could afford to hire smarter people (or even ones that spoke decent english). But, I have to say I'm willing to live with the incidents like this - in the 18 months I've had Vonage, I've saved around $800. I think of that when I'm begging the Indian dude with the impossibly long name who has no clue what I'm talking about to transfer me to tier two...

Has Vonage stopped pushing this firmware due to the problems that have been reported?

NOPE! Sad

for the last couople weeks i have been trying to figure out why none of my apps that need ports forwarded work anymore. (rtp300 here)

i finally had a free couple hours to try to fix 'my' problem again and stumbled on this thread...

they are still dumping this crap firmware around the country it seems. dont know why i didnt notice or get upgraded sooner. now have to figure out what to do about it...

thanks for the info. im going to try a manual downgrade now just to confirm that was the issue.

got a very helpful tech support rep Brenda, who was aware of the prob, went right to work and got the firmware pushed to me.
it didnt take effect right away, had to wait a while till it showed on the router version displayed in admin.
port forwarding in all my apps is working again. hopefully it stays that way! Smile thanks again for the info. all who contributed to this thread.

Sometime within the last week (probably last few days), the services I expose from the machines on my LAN became no longer available (HTTP server, FTP, RDP, etc).

I had not changed any settings in over 6 months (I have screenshots of all my settings from May, when the firmware was at 1.00.62)

I have fault isolated this to the router by taking it out and connecting machines directly to the cable modem, and just now sent an email bug report to Vonage.

When did 1.01.07 get pushed out? Can it be reverted?

I'm having the same problem with this firmware but found a work around that seems to work until the router is rebooted. Just enable the DMZ option and hit save then disable it and hit save. DMZ also works but that is a little risky unless you are running a good software firewall.
