PostPosted: Thu Sep 14, 2006 1:34 pm    Post subject: Can I have 2 adaptors for a single vonage line account? Reply with quote Back to top

My current home Vonage setup is cable modem----hawking hbb1----------RT31p2----------PC. I connect my existing house phone wiring to the phone connections on the RT31p2. Everything works fine.

I want to use another phone adaptor when I'm travelling (too much trouble to take the the rt31p2 out of the home configuration). Here are my questions.
1. Can I have 2 phone adaptors addressed to my one single line Vonage accout?
2. Can I use 2 adaptors at the same time (i.e. leave the home adaptor connected and connect a second adaptor at my hotel when travelling)?

Sorry if my questions are not clear.

The answers to 1 and 2 are no. They can't do this because only one device can be provisioned with one number. If you have a laptop, you could get yourself a softphone number, then forward the home phone number to it when you are traveling. There's other options, but they all require a different number/device/more money.

If you spend less than 2500 minutes on the phone per month then you might want to take a lok at gizmoproject.com (they charge .01 per min for us calls)

You can use their software for free or purchase a SIP adapter at both locations.

1 acount can share the same login and be logged in at the same time.

If you had a call in number for $30 per year it would ring at both locations just fine.

If you had 2 accounts and had one calling/account number forwarded to another it would not cost you anything (it is the same network)

You can make more than one call to SIP numbers at a time with a single Gizmo account, but you can't make more than one call to PSTN numbers at a time.

If you need to make more than one call at a time to PSTN numbers, you need an additional account.

Gizmo, the softphone, currently does not support call waiting, but a hardware adaptor with this feature would work with call waiting.

If you make more than 1300 minutes of outgoing long distance phone calls per month here is another solution.

2 Unlimited vonage.com lines at $24.99 per month for 15 months each = $749.70

1 Unlimited vonage.com lines at $24.99 per month for 15 months $374.85
1 Softphone with 500 minutes at $9.99 per month for 15 months $149.85
Total = $524.70

(vonage.com prices do not incude taxes, shipping, & activation fees)

2 Unlimited sunrocket.com lines at $199 for 15 months each = $398
(includes taxes, shipping, activation and $3 credit for international calls)
