Hi folks!
I'm new to Vonage having recently moved from Freetalk. To cut a long story short, I've spent the best part of two days trying to configure the motorolla vt 2442 device (Vonage) with my exisiting Belkin wireless adsl modem router (F5D7630-4A)
I have tried everything to enable the two devices to communicate. Following lengthy discussions with senior technicians at Vonage - I/we have decided that th best way forward is for me to purchase a new ADSL modem and scrap the Belkin.
Can anybody recommend an ADSL2 modem which will work with the Motorolla VT2442 - specific features I would like on the modem are the:
- Ability to open a "range" of ports (ie 10,000 to 20,000 req for Vonage)
- It must support ADSL/2 speeds (upto 24Mbs)
One major worry I have is that my ISP (PlusNet) use the PPPoA protocol and NOT PPPoE. The Vonage website http://www.vonage.co.uk/help.php?art...egory=44&nav=3 :- states "that the router typically should be configured for PPPoE"
Any real life experience on this hardware selection would be great -
thanks

hi this post is not really in reference to your question but i was just curious - what T/S did you guyz do before confirming that ur router/modem belkin isnt compatible w/ von device?
did enabling bridge mode or pppoe do anything? or hard reset? |

Hi
I had technical difficulties with my motorola vt2442 working with my Belkin 7632 (ADSL modem/router).
To fix it I have to change the 7632's IP address from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.101 (although the address I changed it to was not critical, it could have been 192.168.2.102). It worked after this.
The reason was, the Motorola device, for some reason routes packets to 192.168.2.1 to itself, hence when my router tells it that the Gateway address is 192.168.2.1 it will never send packets to the 7632 and the vt2442 can never get to the internet.
Try this to see if it works. I spent 40 mins on the phone to the technical people before I realised and then I told them how to fix it. |

I'm assuming that the belkin routers IP address default is 192.168.2.1 and this has been changed (192.168.2.101 is my favourite ).
If it hasnt change it now. If it has, get a PC plugged into the vt2442 and get a windows command prompt up and type the following command:
tracert <your belkin device's IP address>
then copy the output back into the forum. If the belkins IP address is currently set to 192.168.2.1, then changing this should work. For some reason these devices are setup to resolve the IP address 192.168.2.1 to a host called mygateway2 on the TNETV1060SDB domain, and this is in no way configurable (that I have found at least). |

is this gonna be a usual scenario w/ adsl modem and vt2442? i mean do they really have to change it to such ip address if they set it up ? |

This will be the usual scenario for any router that uses the IP address 192.168.2.1 that is used with the vt2442. The reason is that the vt2442 uses that address internally for some reason, and if the router gives that address to the vt2442 as the gateway then the vt2442 will never route traffic to the router and hence never get an internet connection.
Maybe someone should ask Vonage/Motorola why the vt2442 uses that address, if it is necessary then maybe they should document the fact as it took me a little while to stumble on it by accident. Other than that though the vt2442 does seem a capable device - the QoS support would be good to try (although it doesnt do me much good with my current network infrastructure). |
