it wasnt clever - I tried logging onto the admin tool on my router at address 192.168.2.1 whilst plugged into the motorola device. I got lucky, prior to that I'd been using one of the hosts on my network that plugs straight into the router Smile it was purely by accident, but I realised that it was routing to the motorola device. The unfortunate this is that it isnt configurable - and I cant see a good reason why they have it set up that way. Anyway the change to the router beats the suggestion from Vonage that their device sits between the internet and your network.

Thanks readinm!

I have made some progress since setting my Belkin router to 192.168.2.2 - good advice!

I can now connect to the Internet via the Motorolla, I have two PCs connected to the Vt 2442 both accessing the web on the 192.168.15.x subnet.

However!!! I am still unable to make or recieve calls. When I turn the phone on I hear

"This telephone line...." this repeats approx every thirty seconds.

The Internet = Green
Ethernet 1+2 = Green
Power = Green (2 flashes and then stable for a second)

This is the second VT2442 motorolla box I have been sent, I have had the VT2442 on most of the weekend and it has been shutdown and restarted a few times.

Any further suggestions would be great!

on the vt2442 admin screen (go to 192.168.15.1 with your web browser) it should give an indication of the state of the connection with Vonage. From memory - on the home page its called "voice status". Ideally this gives says "provisioned", but if not what it does say might give a clue.

I believe that Vonage hack the device so that when it logs on they know its your device - I guess potentially, if its the second device that you've recieved they may have screwed up and they wont let it get onto the service, but this is purely a guess.

Also, you didnt indicate the state of the phone lights - I am assuming they are currently off - which suggests no service at the moment.

Lets get the status from the device first, before I jump to to many conclusions Smile

hmmm.

I tried a number of reboots but to no avail. Belkin set to 192.168.2.2

I followed the instructions "by the letter" and set it it 192.168.2.101 - guess what!?!? after a full reboot (belkin and vt2442) it works. WOW...

Its only taken me 16 days.

Lesson learnt: always follow advice exactly and don't try and be clever.

One final question, as this appears to be a fairly busy thread (thanks guys).... Is it worth configuring QOS? I have an 8Mb Premiere connection with PlusNet? Is there a easy to follow deployment/config guide?

In regards to port forwarding, do I have to to forward certain ports? Is this on the belkin or motorolla or both?

The firewall on my belkin is currently off, when I switch it on I assume I'll need to open up the ports?

Here are the results of the speed test (which appear to be ok)... Should my quality settings on the Vonage website be set to high?

dont bother with port forwarding unless you want to allow remote access to the admin functions of the motorola (I havent set this up myself, but assume that some config of port forwarding would be required). Also, same applies to DMZ, this shouldnt be necessary.

Also dont bother with QoS unless you plan on connecting your other IP devices/PCs through the motorola device. QoS would only affect traffic from that segment of the LAN.

Not sure why it didnt work with 192.168.2.2, but theres probably a good reason, I only went for 192.168.2.101 because it was the first address outside of the block I had reserved for DHCP and didnt want to change that Smile
