I am new to wireless networking and Voip. I had Vonage and internet working fine with:
Cable modem>Motorola VT2442>desktop. However, I added a new wireless router to accommodate a new laptop, so setup is now cable modem>Linksys WRT54GS>Motorola VT2442>desktop. I had read somewhere that I needed to change the IP address of one of the routers, which I did to the Motorola through its software setup. My computer now thinks it is attacking itself!...LOL…I am now getting a message that Norton Personal Firewall has blocked an intrusion attempt. It lists Intrusion as Invalid UDP Destination port and the Intruder as my computer name with the IP address that I set on the Motorola router.
So, in addition to the Norton issue above, I want to know if I have everything set up in the correct order or if it is best to change the order in which the routers are daisy chained. I want the best telephone sound quality and security possible. Secondly, what other settings other than the IP on one of the routers should I change? I read something about DHCP????
Lastly, can someone recommend a good online resource guide or give personal tips as to how to properly secure my wireless connection with the equipment I have and to also give me tips on how to properly set up file and print sharing so that my laptop can wirelessly use the printer attached to the desktop?
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter and please accuse my cluelessness in the area of these issues! |

Here's what you need to do. You will need to set up ur devices in such a way that it's gonna be cablemodem>vt2442>Linksys WRT54GS this is the recommended setup for good voice quality because the vt2442 is the device that is nearest the cable modem. You might wanna change the i.p of your motorola vt2442 to 192.168.16.1 to avoid i.p conflict. With regards to your norton, you will need to setup the app. in such a way that it will recognize the 192.168.16.1 i.p |
