Hi, ever since I joined Vonage I've been getting at the very least 5 calls a day (some in the middle of the night) from an anonymous fax number. I'm getting really fed up and was wondering if I could block fax numbers all together or maybe there is another option? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I feel bad for you, but unfortunately Vonage does not provide call blocking.

They do not provide call blocking, but there are a few alternatives. You can call Vonage and explain your situation to them, and they will change your number for you without charge. If you are attached to your number, the next best thing you can do is file a police report about these calls as they are basically a form of harassment. They should be able to get Vonage to find out the number that is calling you and the police should be able to contact that person and force them to stop either by just talking to them or restraining order.

Von@link states that it can block unwanted calls-this product is not endorsed by Vonage but worth a shot.

I believe that for this product to function properly it requires a router/hub setup with your Vonage router(or PAP2/VTA) behind a hub with the computer running this software, as it appears to be doing packesniffing on incoming Voip traffic to work. That is just something else to keep in mind if you are looking at that product as most people don't have a hub in their home network setup.

Kittin, one of the problems with blocking all fax calls is that you need to be able to recognize that an incoming call is fax, and that's difficult to do without first answering the call.

If you can borrow a fax machine or fax modem for your computer, it might help to accept the call and see what the fax says. It may have a contact number.

Get on the do not call list (donotcall.gov), I always thought it was a joke, but since I've gotten on it I've gotten only about 3 unsolicited calls (politicians and certain charities are exempt). I think the law states (IMNAL) that the caller is subject an $11,000 fine per call.

Here's a fun article about one such company that ignored the law. Also looks like the law was recently been extended to faxes as well (pdf).

I know it might not help your current situation since it takes a significant amount of time for a number to become active on the list. But if you do change your number, put it on the DNC list. It would certainly be fun to see a company get fined $55,000 a day for having you in their fax spam list.

If you still have a modem in your computer you could setup Phonetray free version to block calls. Alhough you'd have to leave your computer on.
OR
Buy a router that allows you to turn off the internet between certain hours thereby turning off the phone. Say 9pm to 9am.

Vonage is providing 21 free features to the vonage-customers.
1) You can block Anonymous call:
to enable this feature press *77 on Vonage telephone
and *87 to disable
2) "Do not distrube" is one of the feature in Vonage. for example, you do not want to receive any incoming call between 3.00pm to 6.00pm, you can enable this feature by pressing key *78 on Vonage telephone and *79 to disable. You can make outbound calls during that time.

Thanks,
A Suresh Kumar

I always thought that people who wanted to block numbers were probably people who don't pay their bills. I stand corrected.

I've been getting daily calls, 4 times a day from the bank that handles my mortgage. They are calling through an auto dialer and when I pick up, no one is there. Even if I wait to see if someone comes on, the phone disconnects.

I got an 800 number to call so they will stop calling me but that takes 30 days. Frustrating. Finally someone answered last night and I said you've contacted me please stop calling. Their reaction, "sorry sir all I can do is give you an 800 number to call."

So I went to the Ohio Attorney Generals Office and filed a complaint for harrassment. Ohio law says that once we tell them to stop calling they have to stop. I use to work for a bank and I know this is true.

I do sympathize with the OP.
