Post subject: How do I port number back to SBC and get new Vonage #?
Just thought I would check here first as this is confusing to me.
Daughter going away to college, so she needs a phone. I don't prefer the
Vonage
service we've been getting at home, so I thought I would just give her the device and she can take it with her and have instant phone access (as they already have cable internet). Bill would automatically continue to come here so I can pay it.
I don't want her to take our home phone number, though.
How do I port my main phone number that exists on
Vonage
back to SBC (it originally came from SBC) and then get a new number for the
Vonage
account that DD can use while at college?
I understand there could be porting issues. At this point, I just want to understand who I contact first and if the 2 phone companies are going to allow me to do this.
I thought this would be easier than cancelling and setting up a new account? Any advice or tips would be great.

Before the Port:
Add a new number to your
Vonage
account.
Make certain your
Vonage
account is in good standing.
Since your number was ported into
Vonage
it should port back out OK.
Port
Contact SBC to initiate the port and establish service.
After the port
Make sure that the first number is no longer listed as active by
Vonage
.
Make sure that your daughter can reach you on your SBC line (old number) from the
Vonage
line (new number).
