I just received a VT2442 router last week (it was free from Vonage) and configured my service last week. I am not using the device as a router, I have it running through my Watchguard Firewall. I opened up all the proper ports and the service works well, albeit only for a few hours. It seems after a while, I notice the power light goes red and I have to cycle power on the router to get the service up again. In addtion, every morning I have to cycle power on the device as the light is red. Anyone have any ideas? I can't see continuing service with Vonage with persistent outages like this. Comcast is my internet provider...

I am experiencing a similar problem with my Motorola VT4224. I never lose my phone service but I regularly lose my internet access through host name. If I know the actual IP address of a site I can get to it. Just not though the common name. Sometimes if I open a cmd window and ping a site, eg ping yahoo.com my IE will again start finding websites. Most times I must reboot my PC to correct the issue. I never had this problem before I installed this device,

Well, that is a DNS issue, not an internet connection issue. DNS is the service that relates "msn.com" to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.

The next time you have that problem, i.e. you can get to a website using and IP, but not by name. Try opening a command window (Start >> Run >> cmd), and type "nslookup". Then try yahoo.com, or google or something and tell us what happens.

I believe both of your issues are firewall related. It is ocassionally blocking the ip address to the TA. That's probably why you are power cycling to correct the ip issues.

I was going to try changing my policy to just do "TO ANY", "FROM ANY" for ports 1-20000 to the ip of the Vonage device. I'll see what that does, since the only thing connected to the Vonage router is the phone, there shouldn't be any security isues.

While I agree the best place to start is with the firewall, I still don;t get it. This evening I opened a policy for ports 1-20000, FROM ANY (in bound) for the IP of my Vonage router, and TO ANY (out bound) for the IP of my Vonage router. Service worked fine for about 4 hours when suddenly I realized the light was blinking three times green for maybe a minute or two and then it turned blinking red. I realize this means it is trying to download a configuration file - I suppose I need to set up some port forwarding for the device, but not sure what ports the two need to talk.
