I've had poor quality for a year now however I configure things. The main problem is dropped sound/chop outbound, though listening here isn't so great either. Our ISP is a wireless broadband system, WBISP of Marshfield, Mass.

First I connected the RT31P2 behind our WRT54G wireless router. I adjusted Qos, I tried port forwarding. Neither helped. Today I stuck the RT31P2 in front, and that helped somewhat, but not enough.

Your packet losses and discards are too high on the uplink. Please plug the computer directly into the wireless service and repeat the testyourvoip test.

Thanks, but what I meant was to eliminate everything except the computer and to plug it directly into the internet service. I want to eliminate your WRT54G and RT31P2 as possible sources of the problem. Your test results suggest that your internet service is the source of your difficulty.

Oh, right. That makes sense. I am not quite sure how to do that because I would have to get my computer to act as the router, with internet address and all. I have the numbers and such, but am not sure how to do it directly.

I tried giving my computer a static IP address and all the other things via tcp/ip and connecting directly, having found some instructions on portforward.com, but it did not connect. I am thinking from what I've been seeing, and having run a tracet to sip.vonage.net (or .com) that it is the ISP.

I suspect you're right. Re-running the tests with the computer connected directly, if you can work through that, will confirm it.

Fortunately, my ISP is a local outfit, and they are reasonable, so I may be able to just dump it on them and have them not automatically go into defensive mode but instead try to deal with it. Tomorrow. And, by the way, thank you very very much.
