PostPosted: Sun Sep 10, 2006 1:13 am    Post subject: My speed test results Reply with quote Back to top

After reading a post, I decided to run the Vonage speed test and below are my results.....
What I have always noticed here since I moved, was poor sound quality with frequent disconnects while the computer is browsing.... The speed test confirms the sound issue (51% audio quality). I have cable w/an upload of 756kbps and an download of 8mbs. I use a Linksys router.I also have QOS setup in the Linksys router set w/the mac addr of the Vonage adapter set to highest.... I dont recall what i have configured for the RTP300.
Any tips would help
dr

Please run a comparison test at www.testyourvoip.com (test call to Boston) and post the detailed results.

Tell us a bit more about your network setup. You refer to a Linksys router and to an RTP300. The RTP300 is a Linksys router, but do you have another in your setup?

Yes I have a wireless router.

Cable -> cable modem->Wireless router->RTP
->pc1 (win)
->pc2 (Linux)
(wireless router has the 2 pc's connected to it)

The RTP is connected to the Eth1 port of the wireless router.
QOS setup in the Wireless router

You have some packet discards on the uplink, but overall things look pretty good. Please try removing the wireless router from the setup. How do things look then?

Are there any cordless phones involved in this setup? If so, what kind?

If you have 8mb service you need to contact your ISP. Your only showing to have 4.5 MB to 5MB service on the speed test which is good but if you have 8MB your test does not show it

I have a Panasonic 2.4ghz cordless ph. My router is set to channell 11.

Yes I noticed my d/l speed does not reflect the 8mb that I have on this test but in other test as well as real-life d/ls I hit 8mbs all the time but isnt the u/l more important?
Also not sure what firmware ver. I have on the RTP since I cant connect to it via the browser. I cant recall why but it has to do with dhcp on my wl router and the static IP on the RTP router. Never got around to resolving that.

The issue with the RTP300 and not being able to connect is probably caused by the fact that the wireless and the RTP are both Linksys routers with the same default sub-net address range. You can change one of them and all should be well.

The 2.4 GHz phone could, in general, cause interference problems with the wireless, but your symptoms really don't suggest that. Nevertheless, I'd try a corded phone just to eliminate that as a problem.
