I own the phone. I've had limited success with it (see other topic) and would like to know if others are in the same boat. Please post your experience with the UT Starcom F1000 Wifi phone!

What would you place your successful call percentage at? (Calls that go through without trouble or difficulties hearing/talking on both ends)

Have you experienced:

Stuttering or garbled audio?
How often does this happen? (% of your usage)
At what point in the call does the phone have this problem?
Does rebooting the phone fix the problem?

Problems with the other person hearing you?
Please describe what happens
Does rebooting fix the problem?

A defective phone?
What was the problem? Outcome? Response from Vonage?

What is your overall opinion of the phone?

What would you improve in the phone?

Any other comments you'd like to add:


I'm curious to know what other users of the phone think of it. Maybe I'm just having bad luck... As I've mentioned before, I believe the concept of wifi phones is fantastic, but the concept hasn't translated into even somewhat reliable calling for me.

15-20%

Have you experienced:

YES

How often does this happen? (% of your usage)
AT LEAST 60-70%

At what point in the call does the phone have this problem?
ANYWHERE FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE CALL TO ABOUT 20-30 MINUTES IN. THE CALLER AUDIO IS VERY CHOPPY FOR THE REST OF THE CALL.

Does rebooting the phone fix the problem?
MOST OF THE TIME.


Problems with the other person hearing you?
YES

Please describe what happens
CONVERSATION WILL BE FINE, THEN OTHER PERSON SAYS I'M CUTTING OUT AND THEY CANNOT UNDERSTAND ME.

A defective phone?
YES

What was the problem?
PHONE BECAME USELESS, WOULD NOT PLACE CALLS WITHOUT CHOPPY AUDIO. A FEW DAYS LATER, IT WOULD NOT POWER ON, TAKE A CHARGE, OR WORK WITH THE POWER CORD.

Outcome?
Vonage SENT REPLACEMENT HANDSET

Response from Vonage?
WHEN THE PROBLEM BECAME VERY FRUSTRATING, AROUND JUNE, I PHONED Vonage CUSTOMER CARE. I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE WHO COULD NOT SPEAK ENGLISH FLUENTLY. AFTER I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT DIRECTIONS THEY WERE TRYING TO GIVE TO ME, I TRIED AGAIN. ONCE AGAIN, I RECEIVED AN OPERATOR WHO DID NOT SPEAK ENGLISH FLUENTLY WITH A HEAVY ACCENT. IT MADE BASIC COMMUNICATION DIFFICULT. WITH THE RUMORS I'VE READ ABOUT THE TECH SUPPORT BEING OUTSOURCED TO OTHER COUNTRIES, I ASKED POLITELY TO BE TRANSFERRED TO SOMEONE IN THE U.S. AFTER REPEATING THIS ABOUT THREE TIMES, THE OPERATOR TRANSFERRED ME TO A "LEVEL 2" REP. THIS PERSON WAS HELPFUL AND TRIED RESETTING THE PHONE, BUT IT DIDNT HELP.
ONCE THE PHONE WOULDN'T POWER UP, I SENT AN EMAIL TO Vonage THROUGH THE DASHBOARD. THE RESPONDED ABOUT 48 HOURS LATER WITH A NUMBER TO CALL. WHEN I CALLED, I RECEIVED A REP FLUENT IN ENGLISH WHO WAS FANTASTIC. HE LISTENED TO THE PROBLEM, AND AFTER HAVING ME TRY A FEW THINGS, SENT OUT A REPLACEMENT HANDSET. THE UPDATED CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY HELPFUL.

What is your overall opinion of the phone?
I THINK THE CONCEPT AND IDEA IS FANTASTIC. IN ITS CURRENT FORM, THIS PHONE FALLS SHORT IN THE EXECUTION OF THE IDEA.

What would you improve in the phone?
IMPROVE THE RELIABILITY. ALSO, ADD A TEXT MESSAGING / EMAIL OPTION.

If i'm not mistaken I believe it's the first phone of it's kind as far as a wireless Voip phone-I think skype has something simliar but you have to plug it up to your computer to make calls.

remember-the first of something is usually pretty buggy.

With respect to the times where you had bad voice quality experiences with the F1000, what were you using for connectivity? I have used one of these without trouble at all, using a Linksys WRT54G connected to a Westel DSL modem (provided by Verizon), connectd to Verizon DSL. I have had a few times where voice quality was badbut I have also used the phone for some pretty long calls - over an hour - without problems.
