Over three months ago we signed up with vonage.
For the past 3 months it's been nothing but a nightmare.
We requested a number transfer from a cell phone to our new vonage service
The number would sometimes ring to the phone but 99% of the time it stayed with the original cell phone.
Since it was becomming apparent that support for this isssue was non-existant - as in idiotic email responces by people who didn't seem to give a sh*t about customer service... and more useless people at tech support.. we decided to cancel our service..
Sept 3 we notifed vonage..
Sept 7 the number got lost by vonage.. after 3 months of not being able to do anything useful they are now able to mess this up royally.
my advice is that any business that has a critical number should stay far away from vonage. |

On the weekend I was interested in switching my cell phomne from nextel to T-Mobile for better coverage in my area..
due to my horrendous experience in porting a mnumber with vonage I was quite leery about the process. the young lady helping us (we were switching 2 cells) assured us it was a simple process and would take no more than 6.5 hours!! I was astounded, vonage could not do it in 5 months..
I decided to do the switch and 3.5 hours later my cell number was working on my shiney new samsung on the T-Mobile network..
simply amazing what dealing with real people who know what they are doing vrs dealing with a very disappointing company like vonage can be.
this further reinforces my opinion that vonage is one seriously messed up company. |

We had a very similar experience. We requested to have our number transferred back in April. Well, when July came around and nothing was being accomplished by the many "escalations" that were done... they somehow were able to "lose" our phone number. It was in a state of transfer that was between both companies. When we called Vonage for a status update, they had no clue and just stated that we were "waiting for a FOC confirmation" or whatever it was. Even after waiting 7 days for them to work an escalation, they were never able to get our service working.
We ended up canceling with Vonage (of course being charged the termination fee for canceling a service that we never received and being charged for the router being told that they do not accept returns on them). Our original service provider had to actually port the number back from Vonage... but suprising enough, it was done within two weeks.
Now, all I can do is tell everyone I know not to sign up with their service (they will pay me back somehow). I've already switched the 3 members of my family who were using Vonage over to TimeWarner's phone service (one was disgusted at the way Vonage handled the situation). I had TimeWarner for over a year (before the Vonage attempt) and never had issues... now I know what a cheaper monthly price can get you.... |

apparently vonage is passing the buck.. they have said our phone number is now in the hands of XO Communication and that we should not contact them or we may lose the number permanently..
we caught vonage tech support in several lies and now they tell us not to enquire with another company they clain has our number and they use a fear tactic to get us to comply with their wishes... |

When we switched back to TimeWarner, they did advise us that the phone number was with XO Communications. I didn't understand this at the time, but later came to the realization that this was probably one of the landline carriers that Vonage uses for providing service.
Maybe this tidbit of information could help understand your particular situation better. I still don't see how such an unorganized and chaotic process is still in place. If I was managing that part of the company, that's the first thing I would change. It's such a HUGE negative impact on the company. |

a miracle happened
late yesterday we got our cell number back with verizon so we're back in business, no thanks to vonage.. at least XO did their job ..
10 days without our business number and not knowing if we would get it back was a little bit of hell that I will never forget. vonage will pay for this, I know their TOS allows them to screw up royally and not be liable but I will never recommend vonage and will make sure anyone with vonage knows of my troubles
there are many other cost effective alternatives |
