After searching the forums, it sounds like we do not know when Vonage will have call blocking. Until Vonage offers this, are there any options to reject a call by installing some software on my computer? From previous discussions, it seems that the only solutions are software such as PhoneTray that blocks calls using an analog modem, or specialized hardware. Is there any software that works at the network level?

One feature of our product VONaLink SoloRecord is call rejection. VONaLink works by monitoring network packets. When a call that is on your reject list arrive, you will hear your phone start to ring, but VONaLink will then send a network message to cancel the call, and your phone will stop ringing. The caller continues to hear ringing.

The best solution is if Vonage implements call rejection at their end, but until then, and if you need call rejection and call recording, VONaLink SoloRecord is another option.

OK. What about Anonymous call rejection or ACR?

If a caller dials *67 before your phone number, the caller ID does not display on your analog phone. However, at the network level, the originating phone number may still be present. If so, VONaLink can read this and reject the call.

I have been getting a steady stream of calls marked as private that when I pick up I hear a steady electronic beep. Yesterday between the hours of 6 am and 9 am my mailbox had 10 such calls in it. I phoned customer service and was told to pick up and dial *78 to block the call. This doesn't appear to work as I am still receiving these calls. Does any one have any ideas?

*78 is to enable Do Not Disturb. It does not block the call, but sends the caller to voicemail.

From Vonage web site:

Check the Ignore all incoming calls (do not disturb mode) box and all incoming calls are sent directly to your voicemail without ever ringing your phone.

This is for V-phone, it has no effect on a regular line. If you want ACR or Custom blocking port your number to 1 of the hundreds of Voip providers that offers it. Otherwise live with what you got.

Folks, this is unbelievable. After so many years, VG still does not have call rejection? Of course, when you spend most of your revenue on advertisement instead of spending that money on talented engineers this is what happens.

Take it from me guys, the best call rejection feature is to cancel your Vonage account and go back to POTS if you can afford them, or look for other Voip alternatives. As always, we pay for what we get. And right now you get second best. For 25$ per month though this isn't tooo bad.

But there is a much greater problem with Vonage: reliability. And BTW - surprise surprise - I haven't had a SINGLE dropped call since going back to POTS.

I fear not calling 911 if my child needs an ambulance... or if a fire rages in my kitchen.

Think about that.

Sorry about the wrong link to the softphone.

I tried *78 and it does work on my analog phone via a LInksys PAP2. From my POTS line, I called into my Vonage # and got a busy signal. To turn off Do Not Disturb, I entered *79.

I tried it again, and *78 did not work.
