I've been with Vonage for just over a year, but have decided to switch Voip providers as I've found a service that is both less expensive and offers ACR and outgoing Caller ID (and several other unique features).
I've been a member of this forum for most of that year, and it has been a great resource that allowed me to fix the few issues I had with my service (despite Vonage's poor CS!) - and for that I want to say thank you for all of those regular posters who provide their help so freely here - as well as to Dan for maintaining a great forum for all of us to enjoy.
I've read what seems like nothing but horror stories from people trying to cancel their accounts, and wanted to provide this final update on my own *positive* experience.
I called the Customer Service number at:
866-243-4357 and went through the menus using '5', then '2', and finally '4'.
I called right at 8:30 AM Eastern, when CS operations begin, and the call was answered immediately. The CS rep was polite and asked why I wanted to cancel, but didn't try to push me to stay or any 'strong-arm' selling what so ever. I was off the phone with the account cancelled by 8:35 AM.
So while the tech support has been a sore spot in my Vonage experience over the past year, the actual quality of my Voip was excellent, and when it came time to say good-bye, they did leave the door open for me to come back by not making cancelling a major hassle. I had already Ported my number from Vonage several weeks ago, which also worked fine and took less than 10 days total.
One last note that I found interesting is that the CS rep who cancelled my account stated that I should keep my PAP2 adapter to re-use with Vonage should I decide to come back in the future. That's a change from what I had understood to be their policy of not re-activating an adapter once service was cancelled - and a positive change at that.
Take care and good luck to all of you in your Voip journeys! |

Sorry to see you go, Chris, but glad to hear you found something that might be better for you to try.
Moreover -- so nice to see a positive post about leaving . . . nothing wrong with moving on to some different, maybe better, maybe better for your needs, service, instead of the stuff so many people have to say about leaving . . . "lousy service, no support, can't understand them . . . ." and on and on. Nothing negative, just leaving for something else!
