I have a small home business line that I pay ridiculous fees to
Quest to 'own'. I don't list with their yellow pages,
I don't use any of their features, and almost never use
the phone. Voicemails are left maybe 3 times a week as
I'm phasing out of that business.
HOWEVER, I'd like to port that good old phone number
I have had for so long to my residential service.
While I understand all the implications of the Vonage
TOS, can this be done without Vonage or Qwest
freaking out about it? Will anyone realize that the
'previous use' of that number, before porting, was
officially a 'business line' even though it will likely be
defunct of all business calls within 3-6 months and I just
want to retain my phone number for residential use?
Thanks,
~B |

There is no issue doing that with Vonage. So long as you don't use that line for telemarketing and fax blasting you can port that as residential line. |

So at the time of porting, business and residential
'inbound' phone numbers from other phone companies
are considered 'equal' and are not differentiated from
eachother? A number is truely just a number?

I had a similar situation and ported the business number to a pre-paid t-mobile cellphone. It took a couple weeks, but it went through. |
