Hi, I am working for a group that is using two Motorola VT2442 Voip routers (one connected through the other) through a cable connection and I am experiencing some very significant voice loss. I will be talking and the other person just will not be able to hear me sometimes, but it also happens that I cannot hear what the other person is saying. This will happen pretty often in short bursts. I have been to testyourvoip.com and here is what is coming up:

I have tried disconnecting the one VT2442 from the other to see if there is an issue there but I experienced no difference. Of course, I have disconnected everything and put it back together. In case it is important, we have three phones, a fax machine, and two notebook computers connected to this system but we are not transferring any large amounts of data. Thank you all in advance for your help.

Between the two phone adapters, how many Vonage lines do you have? Are they all experiencing similar problems?

Your packet discards on the uplink are pretty high. Try plugging a computer directly into your modem and repeating the test.

There are four phone lines (two on each router), usually there are no more than two active at any given time. I am not in the office right now to connect the computer directly to the modem but I will do that first thing tomorrow and post the results. Thanks!!

OK. Are you experiencing similar problems on all three lines?

Yes, all three lines experience issues (and the fax machine fails on a regular basis).

Your cable connection is not stable resulting in the burst loss and MOS variance. You shouldn't have any Round Trip Downstream Packet Loss but it's 1.2%. And your 540 Jitter Max is way high. Seek out your cable provider to check the line. IMOHO
You may also want to see if the "VoIP Speed Test" on this site under "Vonage Information" in the left panel gives you a comparable result. And post the text file result. Given its a business connection one of the others may want to chime in on your results.

PS. You may want to run Tracert to secure.vonage.com to see if you can isolate which hop(server) could be an offender for high latency. But I don't think your provider would be responsible off there network. The cable company will probably push you into Vonage's court.

They should be able to fix it. If you got those results with the computer plugged directly into the modem, then the problem is definitely an ISP issue.

Of course there's a difference between "should" and "will". But give them a chance.
