I'm trying to wire my house so that I can get a dial tone at any phone jack in my house. I called Vonage tech support and their directions were to disconnect the phone wires inside the NID and connect the VTA with a RJ11 to the nearest wall jack, which did not work. I can pick up the phone and hear nothing. I'm guessing that they think my house is wired using a daisy chain and once the wires are disconnected inside the NID I'm connected to a closed circuit and everything will work. I'm assuming that my house is wired using a star topology because inside the NID there are 6 different white/blue and blue/white sets coming into it.
At this time if I connect a phone directly to the VTA I will get a dial tone. I have confirmed that the RJ11 that I'm using is in good working order and I have connected it to two different wall jacks incase one of the had an open somewhere it it. All attempts had the same result, no dial tone.
How do I get this system to work? Should I connect all the white/blue wires together and then the blue/white wires together? I'm not sure how to wire this.

Yes, connect like colored wires together using telephone splices.

From your pictures you would disconnect the six pairs in the first picture and splice them together.
If you wanted you could instead splice the two pair in the second picture together. It might save a lot of effort. (Two splices versus approx. 10) |

You don't have do much of anything....disconnect the drop line (heavy gauge black wire shown in photo) from the two copper colored connectors(copper colored nuts). Wrap the exposed drop lline ends with electrical tape making sure they are isolated from each other. Close the box and either write on the outside or make a llabel stating that "VOIP service is connected to this house. Do not reconnect telephone drop line to this box'. Plug your Vonage adapter in to any phone jack in the house and your house wiring is automatically energized house wide.
