Post subject: vonage on college network
my brother just signed up for
Vonage
and they said it would work everywhere as long as there is an internet connection. He goes to college in Castine Maine and is on their network. I origionally setup the
Vonage
on a comcast cable at home to make sure it worked before he left. He got up there and it didn't work he can't get internet conecting to the
Vonage
modem and can't make any calls either. The university said that thier IP address is 255.255.....something and the
Vonage
has an ip address if 192.168......something. Than he called
Vonage
and they said he "may be in a deadzone" (they said it works as long as there is internet so go figure). We called again and than they said the the college has to get the MAC number and put it in their system in order for it to work. Has anyone ever heard of a deaszone with
Vonage
or ip address differences if so help me please so i can help him. thanks

Please talk to him and see if he can provide the technical details listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum.
Exactly how does he get internet service from the university? Does it work with his computer without the
Vonage
box? If so, did he need to provide a MAC number to the university to get it to work?
