1. Location: Korea
2. Your ISP name and type:SSRT DSL
3. Upload and download speeds
Download: 186880
Upload: 180550
4. Modem make and model: SSRT, DSL moden Neuro Telecom "Freeway".
5. Type of Vonage adapter used: RT31P2
6. Setup of Network: Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC

I've used Vonage for about 5 months and had no problems with it in the past. Two days ago, it just stopped working. I couldn't get a dial tone and the internet light on the RT31P2 would blink rapidly. I can't surf the internet with the router attached. When I disconnet the router, the DSL modem works fine and I'm able to surf. I tried everything on the web site for trouble shooting and nothing worked. I emailed customer service and they asked for a bunch of information:

Here is the email with my reply in bold letters:

through the Vonage device

the modem given by them.

6. How many computers do you have?

7. Do you have any other Routers in your network? Please mention the
make and model number.
None
8. Are you able to go online through the computer connected to the
Vonage device?
No, but if I disconnet the Vonage device, it works.

I really think the Vonage router is bad. I've waited on a reply from Vonage and as of yet haven't received one. I love this service, but this hiccup is upsetting. I can't talk with my family. Can anyone help?

Jenks

I have seen several posts in the VOIP forum about service being blocked in Korea, because the government considers the service illegal.

I would think he should still be able to get out on the web through his router though.

The government has postponed that action due to so many of us using the service to keep in touch with our families. Everyone's Vonage around me is still working. MY internet works, but not with the Vonage router hooked up. Any ideas?

Here is the latest message from Korea...

Plan to Block Voice Over Internet Suspended

YONGSAN GARRISON, Seoul, Republic of Korea -- Due to wide-spread concerns over the potential suspension of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), USFK has contacted DACOM and the Korean Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) to gain more time to allow USFK to seek a solution that supports USFK Servicemembers and families.

On June 22, 2006, DACOM Corporation advised the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, Samsung Rental (SSRT) and several VoIP providers that they plan to block VoIP calls from companies not registered in compliance with Korea’s Telecommunications Business Act, (TBA), effective July 1, 2006.

DACOM and the MIC agreed on June 29, 2006 to suspend their decision to block these services pending the results of further discussions with USFK. The Commander, USFK has expressed his appreciation for the suspension and noted his desire to seek a solution that does not disadvantage U.S. Servicemembers and families serving far from home.

USFK will advise all potentially impacted personnel of the status and results of future discussions and negotiations. For now, the termination action has been suspended and VoIP services for USFK personnel will remain uninterrupted.

As of today,

I still haven't heard back from Vonage. It would be nice if someone there even offered to help me. When Vonage is work, it's heaven. If it's not, get ready for a long wait without phone service...

When you say emailed support, are you talking about going to the www.vonage.com website and contacting them or are you contacting them from the forum menu on the top left (go to Vonage Information | contact support). Apparently, this has better results than the vonage website support email system.

Another is to call Denise Kinder 888-580-4020 x31606 if you can use a buddy's phone. Apparently she responds quickly to requests from forum members.

But from the looks of it I can think of 2 possibilities. 1. your rt31p2 has to be reprogrammed to clone a MAC address (i.e. the MAC address of your computer network card) or 2. it's fried.

I would try to do #1 first.

Thanks Mundy,

I'll try your suggestion. I used the email on the Vonage site, not this one. We'll see what happens.
