I believe that the different data rates determine the codec that is used to compress/decompress the voice traffic. |

I have tried 30, 60, and 90 for Bandwidth Saver. Reason I am asking is that I have seen a lot of people flash their BIOS to run like DD-WRT and other BIOS in their router.
I see 3 alternatives at this point - flash the router and use that QOS, or try to get another box from Vonage. Vonage wasn't helpful last time I proposed that. Alternative #3 is to go to Roadrunner phone. Does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks for those who have responded! |

A fourth option. Forget QOS on your router. Add a Hawking HB1 Broadband booster. I had "okay" results using various firmware on my Linksys, but I finally just bought this and it handles QOS quite nicely.

Cable Highspeed would probably be the culprtit in this situation...along with bandwith settings on the Vonage device..The reason I say that is cable internet signals go up and down throughout the day, being considerably worse at night sometimes than during the day...what you need to remember is that when you are talking on Vonage and doing work on the computer, in this case a presentation you are uploading not only packets from the Vonage device (i.e. your voice) you are also uploading information for your presentation...this all uses bandwith and I bet if you did a test of your upload speed while you were uploading data First and then while you are talking on the Vonage device you will see a considerable drop in your bandwidth (kbs up) at both instances....this may/should allow you to adjust the bandwidth saver settings on your Vonage device accordingly to help alleviate your trouble....just another thought.... |
