PostPosted: Fri Sep 01, 2006 1:44 pm    Post subject: VT 2442 setup in Pune, india... ISP Silicon Mountains Reply with quote Back to top

I just shipped a Vonage device: Motorola VT 2442 to my parents India, Pune. We have a cable internet connection. But I DON’T have a cable modem inside my house and I don’t know where it is. We just plug an Ethernet cable into the computer and go online.

Can some please tell me what steps I need to take to install the VT 2442 so that I can start using the steps?

My ISP is Silicon Mountains.

How is your computer configured? Does your computer get an IP automatically by DHCP or did your ISP give you a specific IP to use? You'll have to mirror the settings that your PC has onto the Vonage router.

Does this instrument require Voip connection?
smjet does not provide Voip connection. Have you subscribed
to any void service provider?
Acc to siliconmountains say the equip. is all configured and ready, he only needs the gateway address of the service provider at my end.?

This is what my ISP in india told my parents.

Can anyone answer my question? What sort of gateway si he talking about...

I tried together the phone with a BSNL network at my uncles place. It worked perfectly fine with PPPoe Configuration.

The only hitch was i could not get to the internet through the Motorola Vt 2442. The phone worked.

My network was... BSNL (Modem) ---- VT 2442 ------ Computer.

VT 2442: IP 192.168.15.1
SM: 255.255.255.0

Computer: IP: 192.168.100.12
SM: 255.255.255.0
DG:192.168.100.1
P-DNS: 203.187.217.200
A-DNS: 203.111.244.13

Does anybody have an idea what i am running into? Any other settings in the VT 2442 do i have to change?

Would it solve the problem if my SM in Vt 2442 is set to 255.255.0.0 rather than 255.255.255.0

Please let me know solution for the problem

Andy

192.168.100.12 is not in the DHCP range of your VT2442, that is your problem. If you want to use a static IP for some reason you would need to make it in the range that your VT2442 is using 192.168.15.2-192.168.15.255, or simply select obtain an IP automatically in your PC's network configuration.
