Post subject: Choppy, dropped calls, poor audio
I have had
Vonage
Service for a month now and the service has been "spotty" at best. Here is my config:
Cox Broadband
Motorola Cable Modem sb5101
Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router
D-Link VTA Phone Adapter
Uniden 8888 phone
I have called tech support numerous times and every time they have me check my bandwidth speed test, and then they say they are making changes on the account then ask if I can hear them, and I usually say yes, and that's it. I proceed to have bad audio quality on the majority of my calls. Either people can't hear me, or I hear static and drops in audio from them.
I have tried various different quality bandwidth settings, but this never fixes the problem.
I am at my whits end because I use this phone a lot to call clients and this is just unbearable and embarrasing.
The only thing I have not tried is port forwarding or placing the phone in front of the router. I have no idea how to put it in front of the router since there is no Ethernet "out" to go to the Linksys router.
I hope that somebody here can help me troubleshoot this because I am only left with options of going to a land line if I can't get this sorted out.
Any recommended steps I should take from here?
TIA

Last night I checked the firmware on my router and I had ver.1.00.4. I found on the Linksys website that the latest is 1.00.9. After I updated it it seems that the call quality is better.
