I can not seem to get my HR10-250's to dial home using my Vonage service. Vonage sent me a D-Link VWR router/phone adapter. Does anyone here have one of these? More importantly what codes can I try to see if I can get it to dial home. I was going to call DTV and or Vonage, but will probably get a CSR who knows nothing about this.

I sent the router back to Vonage and am now usint the VTA they sent me originally and a Linksys WRT54G router. I still can not dial out on the TiVo.

Is the Vonage line working for other purposes? What does or doesn't happen when the HR10-250 tries to dial out? How do you have things wired up?

It fails to connect. That is the error I get. I have three phone lines (2 for my TiVo's one one for my phone all going to a single punch down box. Then that box has a phone line plugged into it and that goes to my VTA.

So I gather that the phone does work, right? Can you listen on it and hear the TiVo trying to dial out?

The phone works fine. I have not tried to listen to the TiVo dialing out. I will tonight.

I have a Linksys RT31P2.

My connection looks like this:

Internet--Linux--RT31P2--Home Phone Wiring

At one time I was able to use the *99,,#034,,*79,, dialing prefix on the HR10-250 and it would connect occasionally. Dialing out is not the problem. You get the carrier signal, but a connection is never made.

Sometimes, as strange as it sounds, picking up the phone 10 seconds after Tivo said it was dialing (actually dialing, not preparing to dial), waiting for carrier and then hanging up actually helped make the connection.

Since I have been receiving a bunch of blocked packets from Vonage networks in my firewall logs, the HR10-250 has not been able to make a connection no matter what I try. Tivo will dial, but connection is never made.

Vonage has changed something in the past 140 days. This is when my firewall logs started getting lots of dropped packets from vonage's networks and when the HR10-250 stopped being able to make a modem connection.

Sorry I do not have anything good to offer you, but at least you know you are not alone.

I have no facts to say what worked, but I will tell you what has transpired.

I took my HR10-250 to a neighbor's house who has Digital Phone through the cable provider.

Several attempts to make phone call from their also failed several times.

For no apparent reason one time it actually made a connection. From that point forward I was able to change dialing prefixes, and numbers to call and every connection worked.

I took the device back home and hooked it back to Vonage and as usual no dice.

I then made some firewall changes to forward the traffic, that I have been blocking in my firewall from vonage's network, to the Vonage device.

Since then I have made two successfull manual calls and the HR10-250 has made two calls on its own.

It is working, but I really do not have the magic guide to follow. I wish I did. All I can say is it is working more now then it has ever worked in the past.
