Currently I have 2 Vonage numbers and a local Verizon number as a back up on my home computer.
I might have a need to add more lines and was wondering if it could be done. Due to the fact I live in a condo I only have inside wiring available for 1 more line. Virtual numbers are not possible because I have to be able to tell what line the call comes in on.
Currently my broadband modem is connected to the Motorola mta. Off the MTA I am running lines off both of the phone jacks and to my Linksys router.
Now my questions - Can I hook up another MTA to gain two more lines? Where would I put another MTA? Can I mix and match services (i.e. Vonage and Verizon Voicewing or Vonage and italkbb)? |

Yes you can. You can connect another MTA to one of the LAN ports on the first one (though you may have to work some issues to make sure that the two MTAs don't have the same subnet addressing). A better solution is to get a good router with QoS capability and use it to feed both MTAs. Of course, you need to be sure that your internet service is up to the task of handling all those phone lines.

Can't help you there. Probably. |

Yes currently, I have 2 Vonage lines, and one viatalk. In the past I have had 2 Vonage & 1 Lingo, 2 Vonage & 1 Packet 8. Most likely soon to all be viatalk.
Just be sure your ISP can handle 4+ simultaneous phone calls. If so, will you need to use the web while using 4 lines? Most likely if you have 4 calls going at once you won't able to surf the web... |

I can't see any way I would have 4 calls going at once. It's just me here in the office and the most might be 2 calls at a time. I just need to ability to offer each "customer" a different number and also be able to tell on my end which number the call is coming in on. I could even get away using Skype or AOL Digits with a USB phone if I had to. |
