PostPosted: Thu Aug 31, 2006 11:34 am    Post subject: Configuring WRTP54G with a neatgear WR3114 router Reply with quote Back to top

OK guys, I have had Vonage about 1 month and still haven't been able to use it once. I tried originally to just use the WRTP54G as my router but had issues with constant rebooting and no internet connection so I decided to just try and use it as a phone adapter and nothing else. So far no luck but as of right now I have my netgear set up as my wireless and my internet connection is perfect. Now all I want to do is configure my Vonage router in there so I can use the phone and I have no idea where to begin, I have tried to set it up and cannot get the phone light to come on or anything. I tried to search the forums but I dont see alot that I can comprehend, I know a lil networking but some of the things are way over my head.

As of now this is my setup...

Verizon dsl ------------> netgear WGR3114 -----------> computer and everything works fine. How do I incorporate the linksys WRTP54G (only as a phone adapter) into this network????

Stats:
Location:Baltimore
ISP: Verizon
existing router: netgear WGR3114

where do u have the blue cable connected? is it connected to the ethernet port of netgear to the internet port of Vonage?
if so, were u able to get a solid powerlight? until u can get it to stay solid, phone light wont come up. then just plug your phone into phone port 1

I have the blue cable going from the LAN port from the netgear to the ethernet port on the linksys. The power light was solid along with the internet light, but every five seconds all the lights would flash and keep blinking for a while and then go solid and then keep doing the same thing, but the phone light never lights up.

ok so i connected one end to the ethernet port from the netgear and the other end to the internet port of the linksys and what do you know, i can use the phone. Im not sure how long this will last though because the same thing happened when I first tried to install it, but for the moment im in buisness. One thing though, i disabled the wireless function on the linksys yesterday but the wireless light is solid. Will this effect anything, i do not plan to configure anything wireless to the linksys.

And just as i thought, i went upstairs to change clothes and come back and only the power light is on the linksys. No phone serive again. What can i do to stop this from happening other than keep rebooting everything?

You were right to disable the wireless function on the WRTP54G. Other than that, is it still set to the factory defaults? If not, I would start by doing a hard reset and then turning off the wireless function again.

Now, is the Netgear router set up to be a DHCP server? If so, run a cable from a LAN port on the Netgear to the WAN port on the WRTP54G. Plug a computer that's configured to get its IP dynamically into a WRTP54G LAN port. Unplug everything else from the WRTP54G. Does the phone light come on? Can you access the internet using the computer plugged into the WRT?
