Hi,
I brought a Vonage Phone ( MOTOROLA VT2442 modem) NetGear WGR614v6 wireless from US. In India we have BSNL broadband connection with DSL 502T ADSL Router.
I tried to connect the vonage phone both with and without including the wireless router, but both the times internet is not working. But when I take out the vonage modem connections and and directly connect the BSNL modem to the computer internet is working.
I follwed the instricutions by logging into the 192.168.15.1 and entered the username and pwd given by BSNL still not able to connect to the internet when connected the Vonage modem.
Can anyone tell me what am I supposed to do. Am I supposed to change any settings.
When I logged into 192.168.15.1 i chose PPPoE connection. Am I supposed to select something else
Similarly would be of great help if you can assist me why my wireless router is also not working, when I connected it to BSNL modem without vonage phone.
Thanks in advance |

Just to make sure I understand :
1. Your computer connects to the internet with only the DSL Modem directly.
2. You are trying to use both the Motorola Phone adapter and a Linksys Wireless router.
Try the following:
1. DSL Modem > Motorola Phone adapter (no wireless router). Make sure you make the connections as shown in the setup instructions.
2.Login using the IP address provided.
3. Choose PPPoE, and type in the UN & PW. (These are case sensitive. so type in exactly as they were used to connect from your computer to Modem earlier.)
4. Click on Status and see the connection status - Should say "Connected".
If not, either your UN/PW is not entered correctly, or your cable connections between your Modem and the Motorola Phone adapter are not connected correctly. Please check these and retry.
Usually works fine the first time. |

Humblesoule,
Thanks for the reply. But i tried everything you said,
I connected the Motorola -> ADSL Router ( Blue ethernet )
Motorola -> Computer ( Yellow Ethernet )
Motorola -> Phone ( phone jack )
And I logged into Motorola VT2442(192.168.15.1) and selected the connection option as PPPoE and entered the username and pwd provided by bsnl, selected the disconnect time as 0 and clicked on CONNECT.
But when I clicked on Connect , after a couple of secs the username and pwd I entered are changing to the default values ( Before entering the username and pwd provided by BSNL, the default values are username and some value for pwd). I am not sure if it is supposed to be like that.
Some people are saying that I have to log into 192.168.1.1, which is ADSL router ip address and should select connection as STATIC.
And some people are saying that I have to loginto 192.168.15.1, which is vonage motorola ip address and should select pppoe and should provide the username and pwd provided by bsnl.
Can anyone help me which one is correct. I tried both but still was unsuccesful.
Thank for the help |

The instructions that you got from Humblesoul sound correct. The fact that the information you're entering is re-setting to the defaults when you hit connect sounds strange. Have you tried pushing the save button before hitting connect? |

hi
i know about bsnl connection.
First, connect your vonage device (motorola vt2442) to the modem.
connect your computer on the "yellow color port" on the motorola.
login into the motorola page through 192.168.15.1 address.
and then check it is getting the ip address or not. go to "status">>click on "connection status" on left side and check the ip address.
if it is n/a, then go to setup and select "wan configuration". and then select "pppoe", give connection name "dataone" and your user name and pass.
click on save button on bottom of the page.
wait for 2min, it will reboot the device automatically.
and then to "status" again check for the ip address. if not , do a complete power cycle.
the power light and ph light should be solid.
if the power light blinks 2times that means it is not getting the ip address.
if you have any question

Hi Dude,
You can get a vonage phone adapter either a w/l or a wired one ..MTAVT2442 or WRTP54G will be a good option..BSNL provides static IP. so when u go with the device in india u have to configure the device for static ip..rest of the things will work fine...
bye |

I doubt. BSNL charges extra for static IP. default is dynamic |
