For about 6 months, it seems our phone and internet goes down. I've spoken to Cablevision and they keep saying the signal is strong. They tell me to unplug my cable modem and phone router and wait a few minutes and replug. Everything works. A few hours later or the next day the same problem.

Now that I've moved, it seems to happen 3 or 4 times per day.

I have a Linksys RT31P2 since 2004, Everything is hard wired and still running Windows 98.

Not sure what to do since Vonage customer service doesn't seem to have a different answer.

If you set the RT31P2 aside for a day or so and plug your computer directly in to the modem, does it lose internet connectivity several times a day?

It does seem to work fine when plugged in directly from cable modem to computer. When the router is also set up, the phone light on the front of the router box wil go off even when the internet. is still working. All the lights on my cable modem are on.

That seems to exonerate your ISP. I would call Vonage (use 888 250 1799), ask for tier 2 support, and describe this problem to them, emphasizing that you do not lose internet service unless the RT31P2 is involved.

If that doesn't get effective action, report the problem to Vonage via Email using this forum's contact page (menu top left, Vonage Information/Contact Support). We're told that this gets more attention than the standard support.

If you're referring to the RT31P2 router, I didn't say that at all. The test you did indicates that the problem is not with your internet service provider, but rather with Vonage. The RT31P2 is part of the Vonage system and may well be the problem.
