I have a small business at home, currently set up with a wireless network since my business is downstairs and our cable access point is upstairs.
I also have two outside phone lines -- one for business, one for personal use.
I cannot use my current phone numbers with Vonage, so I want to keep our personal phone account with our existing ph company. However, I want to get Vonage for my business line.
My question is this. Since I have two phone lines coming into the house, can I use just the business line to set up my Vonage through our existing phone wiring? Or would keeping just the one outside company line create a fire hazard while using the other line for Vonage?
I would like to put the Vonage adapter right near my downstairs business phone, but my cable connection is located upstairs. My wireless signal downstairs is not real strong, and my anticipation is that my Voip setup would not be very realiable as a result if I just tried to bridge the wireless signal downstairs.
Sorry for the long explanation, and thanks to anyone who can provide any advice. |

It sounds like you can do what you want with no problem at all. I assume that you would be disconnecting your existing outside business line, so by making sure that its hard wiring is not connected (even though the line is dead) you could use it for your Vonage line. Your existing personal line's wiring would remain the same. One suggestion that I have would be to put your Vonage adapter right with your cable connection. If you would be using your existing wiring for the phone, and it can be located where ever you have an outlet, why should you care where the adapter is located? I have mine located physically next to my internet access and use phones throughout the house. |
