Im relatively new to the whole VOIP thing, and so far my only experiences have been with the likes of MSN and Skype. Im now looking into Vonage however, and wonder if anyone can help me with a couple of questions:

1. If you subscribe to Vonage, when you connect it up to your house phone, does that mean that you can no longer use your old BT number, or is it possible to have for eg 2 phones in your house, one connected to the Vonage equipment with a VOIP number, and another phone connected directly to your BT line as normal, which will still be your old BT number?

2. Does anyone know if it is possible just to get the softphone from Vonage for free, or do you have to pay the monthly fee for the hardware, and then another monthly fee to get the softphone?

If anyone can help me with these questions I would be most greatful.

Thanks

Vonage VOIP and your BT landline will be completely seperate - you will receive a Vonage number and still keep your BT landline.

I think with the Vonage Softphone your just pay the £5:99 monthly fee for your 500 inclusive minutes. From what I read, you don't pay extra for the software, just the monthly fee.

Hope this helps

yes, you can still keep your bt phone number and get a new one from vonage. you don't need to modify your existing set up with bt. now for the vonage line, you just have to connect your internet connection to the vonage hardware and then plug any phone into the hardware. That will work.

for the softphone, it's an added feature and you have to pay the monthly fee for it. you can't get it not unless you have an active account with vonage. that would mean paying the monthly fee for your plan and additional for the softphone.
