Yesterday I received my Linksys WRT54GP2 vonage and after many hours of troubleshooting I have not managed yet to make it function properly.
Note: I am in Greece, I bought the WRT54GP2 from USA, but I don't want to make a Vonage plan, at all. I want to use it as a switch/wireless AP. Is there a problem with that? Has the unit's activation anything to do with its functioning properly?
My DSL router is an Alcatel Speedtouch 530. It's a really nice router and had never problems with it. Every time you connect any device, it gets internet in 5 seconds.
1)The first time I connected the Linksys to the DSL Router the Internet activity light started to flash quickly, and non-stop. But I was having problem with the PC <-->Linksys connection and I unplugged the Linksys. Is there any possibility that I interrupted any automatic firmware upgrade? If yes, how bad is this?
2) After that, most of the times that I plugged the Linksys into power the Power Light flashed, sometimes very fast and sometimes super fast. The PC is assigned a different IP almost every 20-30 seconds, and a windows balloon says "Limited connectivity or no connectivity". In fact, sometimes the Linksys doesn't assign a 192.168.15.x IP to the PC, but a 2xx.xxx.xxx.xxx (I can't remember the exact address) and subnet: 255.255.0.0
The only way I can reach the Linksys via Ethernet interface is Half Duplex 10Mbps, PC static IP = 192.168.15.2 (that's the only way I've managed to access http://102.168.15.1). But even then, while I'm in the web interface and everything looks normal, the power light starts blinking and Windows says that "a cable has disconnected" and after 2 seconds the cable connects again. I think that means the Linksys reboots.
2) I tried several ways to reset the Linksys, (some say 5 seconds press, other 30 seconds, and some other say 30sec and unplug while pressing, anyway...). Sometimes after a reset the Linksys seemed to operate ok, but then I figured out that what happens is REBOOTING after 3-4 MINUTES. I have even noticed multiple reboots every 3-4 minutes. After rebooting (power light blinking slowly), the power light is flashing fast.
3) Sometimes I manage to connect wirelessly with my laptop, it's usually given the 192.168.15.100 address (default settings) but whenever I tried to access http://192.168.15.1 the Linksys reboot
Note: I thought there was a power problem so I triple checked my power adapter with my polymetre and it is fine.
Please advise me what to do next. |
