I too awoke to no dial tone. And had my modem set to static ip.
I took the advice posted before and ran into some other strangeness.
1. I switched my vt1005 to get its ip dynamically AND this did not work! It would not get an ip from my dhcp server for some reason. Every other device on my network worked fine.
2. The vt1005 would not assign an ip address to my computer plugged directly into it. Had to assign one statically.
Anyways, after setting it to dynamic, saving, then powering it off and getting nowhere I switched it back to static, defined the dns servers statically. And bingo, it connected, updated and everything is fine now. Either that did it, or they finally got their act together.
Totally amateurish vonage's part. |

I too followed the instructions in this post and got my phone working again. I called Tech Support before reading this post and got the script read to me that they were aware of the problem with no eta when it was going to be fixed. I have a feeling that it was never going to be fixed without my manual intervention. It is too bad that they couldn't just post a service notice on their website. I wonder what they are up to with the firmware anyway. I had been working ok without for several years. |

I find it absolutely incredible that I've been without service for over 36 hours and eight calls to Vonage during that time have resulted in nothing of any use but from the time I typed "vonage outage" into Google to finding this thread and resolving the issue amounted to no more than nine minutes. It's no wonder their stock is where it's at, I've got three lines, one of which is for business with a toll free, which were down all day yesterday and had some customers wondering if I had gone out of business. |

I was down all day yesterday too. After 2 hours of talking to India I finally got through to someone in the US who explained that they had rolled out an update to my V1005 that screwed it up. Light was on, but no dialtone. Took him 2 minutes to rollback and it worked again.
According to Raj and his buddies in India I had to delete my cookies. Yes; the problem had to do with my PC. Explaining that I hadn't changed a thing and that it suddenly stopped working didn't stop them from running through their pathetic scripts.
I've been with them since early 2004, but lately things are just getting crazy. |

Sounds like you need to setup a network availability number and divert your line to a cellphone. |

Thanks for the help in time of need! Hopefully more D-I-Y'ers will find the instructions here to make it through this Motorola specific Vonage outage. This does have me re-thinking my future with VOIP. Will I change providers to get new subsidized hardware when my Motorola VT does die a permanent death or will I buy another VT to stick with Vonage? This was a reminder that I'll have to keep my eyes open to all of the options.
Thanks again! |

"FarmerBob"s fix does work with Motorola VT-1005 MTA's.
I did both of mine this morning after almost 4 days of no service.
