Great story -- Brother MFC -- At least six times I called Vonage because I could not receive or send faxes -- each time a different (I assume) Indian man tried to talk me through the settings! What fun I had! We have a two business household, so going without our new fax machine setup for a month or more was really great!
The really awesome part was each time these Indian men absolutely SWORE that this fax machine DOES work with Vonage! The funniest thing though -- when I called Brother - they told me that under no circumstances was my fax machine EVER going to work with internet phone. and that they should've known that. Heck, if I'd known that in advance, I likely wouldn't have gotten an internet voip setup! Whatta riot!!
I just LOVE talking to people who can barely speak English and then lie to me over and over and over! What a great company!
I filed a complaint with the BBB and the FCC today to get my money back because I never had a working fax and never could've!
I love Vonage!!! |

Did the Brother folks indicate why their machine won't work with internet phone? Many of us use fax machines with our Vonage lines without any problem. What's different about the Brother machine? |

I have good luck with a Panasonic brand Fax machine, I can even make and sustain a computer dialup connection on my line @ 22kbps. Good luck. You will also receive more help from others if you don't seem like you are "SHOUTING". |

I had the same problem with my HP 3330 Mulifunction and so I just turned off the error correction and V.34 and it seems to be working fine now. In the settings that is Fax Setup and then All Faxes.
Hope this helps.

It was sarcasm, dear Louis. Did you not get it?
I do not recall the term they used - apparently the multifunction fax was not ever made to work with internet. Honestly, I don't recall the wordage they used and don't care anymore because we got OUT, thank goodness, though they continued to charge us for two months after we canceled. They won't refund us, as they say they have calls placed from our account. Wild -- haven't been able to figure this one out since I removed the phone adapter over a month ago, but... must be gremlins.
As for others having success with whatever type of fax they have, I certainly don't doubt that, so you needn't jump on the Vonage bandwagon proving your good luck in dealing with them. Obviously, some people live in an area or have a situation where it works alright for them. Myself, the sound quality was a big issue, not to mention the other things. I certainly wasn't going to go out and buy a new fax machine to work with Vonage. The best situation in OUR case was to cut our losses. I'm only sorry the guy at Best Buy ever starting selling this to us that day, and we mus'tve felt in the buying mood. Musta been that dang Christmas music.

I have a brother mfc-8500 and fax is working fine for me, if I set the fax mode to "overseas."
In fact, I just sent a 9 page fax out tonight and I had no problems.
That being said, I only use the fax maybe once a month and usually only send at night, but the times that I do use it, I haven't had any problems unless I forget to turn on overseas mode. |

Well, with all of the calls I made to Vonage - they had me try every available manifestation with my Brother fax, and we lost 2 months of business faxing capability.... extremely questionable service, IMO. Very dicey company. Complaints have been issued. |

... and they are still charging me.
My intuitions are that this is a very dishonest company. I have filed complaints and would like to warn others thinking about getting Vonage. |

If I had a business where faxing was critical to it's operation, I would have never cut the POTS lines before at least trying out the fax machine on a VoIP line.
If you didn't realize VoIP/Fax has any issues, then the required homework before adopting a new technology was not done.

Well Craig... how would you suggest we should have done that? Called the guy at Best Buy a liar to his face when we asked him specifically if the fax machine would work?? Maybe the people in tech support who stood by the fact that it would work up until the day we did call them liars finally??
I know you are all likely HOT for Vonage and goodie for you -- you didn't have any issues. Don't come here and tell me I didn't do sufficient research on voip and my fax machine -- because guess what?? I didn't know THEN what the hell POTS is and I still don't and I don't care to know. Maybe POTS is what all the Vonage techies were smoking when they gave us advice.
Thanks for Chipping In, though. |
