It's been working fine since we moved, new isp...

Location: Corsicana, Texas (about an hour south of Dallas)
ISP: Northland Cable
Vonage Adapter: RT31P2
Network: Modem --> Wireless Router --> Vonage Computers run off the wireless router, so technically the Vonage router is all by itself with nothing but the phone connected.
Issue: Suddenly called parties cannot hear what we're saying, OR hear every other word, usually hopelessly garbled.

I ran these tests and have a BUNCH of modem logs. I'm pretty solid believing that it is my isp. I was wondering if some of the people here who are more experienced with the numbers could tell me how they look before I call and fuss, especially so I'll know exactly what to say to them LOL

Alih1l

I was having a similar issue. The problem was with the ISP. The signal levels on the modem were not sufficient enough to keep me online. I contacted my ISP and they sent someone to my home to fix the issue. Since you are able to log into the modem, what are your transmit channel power and receive channel power?

It was -5.0 dBmV and 54.0 dBmV... down and up.
At that time. Right now it's -1.2 and 49.8
This was after they came out and worked on it. Still having the same problem. In fact the Voip test yesterday right after they 'fixed' it gave us a 1.1 score to boston. Twisted Evil

Then when my mom went into the office to talk to them about it, the lady at the front desk was saying that she had heard a lot of people having problems with Vonage ... that it's not 'compatible' ... NO IDEA what that means Lol ... Anyway in the same breath she started trying to get my mom to sign up for NORTHLAND'S Voip phone service. Rolling Eyes

It's been trucking along fine for a month now, and this started happening right after an outage.

Your current channel power looks good. Are you using bit torrent or streaming audio/video while trying to use the phone? If you are running bandwidth intense applications, try not running any while using the phone. If, your voice quality clears up, your problem may be QOS related. I experienced both the channel power problem and the QOS issue.

Once I got my cable service running clean, I the installed the D-Link DI-102 and I can run the most BW intense applications and still have good voice quality. If you decide to get this device, COMP USA has it on clearance now for $29.99, I paid $64.99 for it a while back.

Keep me posted, I am curious to learn what happens if you decide to use the phone while not using any Internet Applications.

We've tried it with the computers shut down. LOL Same problem.

I'm beginning to actually suspect the adapter now. It's possible that originally it was the isp and then the adapter just picked this time to finally croak (it's been coming for about 8 months now ...)

It's possible, especially if it was possible that five computers could all have windows crash and burn in the same weekend. Lol

This router gets quite hot and when you pick it up and hold it in your hands, it rattles a little and makes creaking noises. We discussed replacing it last night. I just hate to get looped back into the one year thing, cause if it turns out I can't actually use the service down here, I've got a problem. Ya know. I've had Vonage since about a month after they started advertising in the DFW market, and I'd hate to see it go.

If it makes any sense.... I also have a softphone account, that is registered on a hosted pbx. I can call in and out to it now, and theres no delays, only the very rare skip and no echo. It was horrible trying to talk over the softphone before. (Like a week ago)

Gotta do what I gotta do. I was planning on changing our phone number anyway Lol Too many 'Anonymous' calls (like 20-30 a day).

Many people have complained of issues with the adapter you use. Since I already have a wireless router, I got the D-Link and it works quite well, and many people in the forum seem to have great luck with it. I have read many places in the forums where the VTA / Router combos don't work very well. Most people have had success with the single VTA units like the D-Link.
