I want to have one number and use it in two locations without having to move the Vonage router and headset. I am willing to buy two routers, but want the same number. Has anyone done this?

Alternatively I could buy the V-phone or the Wifi phone. I have been warned that the quality of these is not great. Would love to hear from someone who has used these.

Thanks.

You can set up Simulring to ring two (or more, up to 6) numbers when one of them is called. This way you would be able to share one number and have both phones at both locations ring when that number is called. Simulring is accessed via the Call Forwarding menu.

Your alternative solutions would not give you the same phone number unless you set up Simulring.

you can not have the same number assigned to two devices. the network "glues" numbers to the MAC address of the hardware device, be it an adapter, usb stick, router, etc.

pdhenry offers a valid solution but that of course ups your costs. same holds true for call forwarding of vaonage line 1 to Vonage line 2.

I use the vphone(usb) and have a convential motorola ata. the quality on the vphone is dependant on network(as is all Vonage service) and the type of headset/mic you use. the one provided is very basic so i would suggest going shopping for a better unit from plantronics, logitech, etc.

you can "swap" numbers too. i moved my main acct# which is unlimited to the usb from the base adapter and vice versa. i then use the web admin to manage my call forwarding, etc. this swap requires a call to customer care.

sorry for the long winded msg. hope this helps.

techdoc: How do you like the V-Phone? As I have posted elsewhere, I have one, too, and generally like it, but I have two issues:

(1) Apparently call waiting cannot be turned off for the V-Phone. Is this true for you, too?

(2) I have a slight (but very annoying) delay in the conversation with using the V-Phone, and Vonage has been unable to resolve it. Do you have this delay, too?

(1) I set call waiting to off under features in the web admin BUT do not know if it really works as I have not tested it.(curious now).

(2) I have not noticed any additional delay beyond what is common with Vonage, the net & Voip in general. I have noticed that the conversation doesn't appear to be full duplex meaning if I speak I cut the other party off and vice versa. This could be a limitation on the headset/mic in use or the network as well.

overall I'd rate the vphone as reliable as the other Vonage products and give it an extra point because of it's true portability.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, techdoc. Your responses are very interesting.

The Vonage web control panel clearly does not work for me. It says my call waiting status is "off" but it is actually on! And, if I click "on" or "off" and then the submit button, it always reverts to saying "off" even though it is always on. I'm curious if your experience is any different.

I definitely have a delay with the V-Phone, not a duplex problem, and it is not present on a Vonage adapter I use, even with the same Internet connection.

I do use a much higher-quality headset than the one that came with the V-Phone, and it certainly helps, but it doesn't eliminate the delay.
