PostPosted: Mon Aug 21, 2006 9:25 pm    Post subject: WRT54GL with dd-wrt firmware-lose dialtone every 24-36 hours Reply with quote Back to top

I am located in the northwest Chicago suburbs I have Comcast cable 6 Mbps/384 Kbps. My modem is a RCA DCM325. Vonage adapter is the Motorola VT2442 and my router is the Linksys WRT54GL with the dd-wrt firmware upgrade.

I have it set up with the modem > Linksys router > Vonage adapter (the router is also hard wired to 2 desktops)

I haven't really fooled around with QOS settings because I dont know much about it. I just did the upgrade to boost the wireless range.

My dailtone drops every 24-36 hours and I have to reboot the Vonage adapter to get a dial tone again. My 2 desktops don't drop out though, they stay connected.

I dont want to put the Vonage adapter in front of the router.

I've been digging around on the forums and I can't find a post that seems to have a similar scenario.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to stop this from happening? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I have a similar setup. I am using a Linksys WRT54G v2 with latest dd-wrt firmware and have no problems. If you have to reboot your adapter but not your router than I am 99.99% sure it's not your router. Get Vonage to exchange your adapter. If your using a Linksys adapter I recommend you ask Vonage to exchange it for a Dlink VTA adapter. I find the voice quality better than the Linksys PAP2.

Have you tried plugging your Vonage Adapter power directly into the wall. That is one of the first things the first level Vonage support people in India will suggest.

I've called the customer support 2 times and one time they told me to just use the motorola and not use my router. I declined to do that.

The second time they said they were going to fix some things on their end and that just made the dial tone disappear faster.

They have not told me to plug it right into the wall. I'm going to try that, thanks!

I found a how to on QOS settings last night for Vonage and I think I set it up right and I set the ip of the adapter to premium. I seem to have a dail tone so far...

Do you have any suggestions on how to go about getting them to give you the d-link adapter instead? I asked them last time if I could get new hardware and they said they were going to try some things on their end.

The first level support people are probably not able to make those sorts of decisions. Ask to get through to advance tech support in New Jersey. Better yet, email dslreports@vonage.com and give them your phone number. I got a response within 24 hours from an advanced or 'super' advanced person who was able to make very high level changes to my account and authorize all sorts of things including the exchange.
