I had something weird happen today. I tried calling my friend (who uses AT&T's Voip service in Denver). When I call the number, it says the number is no longer in service. When he calls me, it says the same thing too. We can call each other (on the same number) via our cell phones, and I can call them via land line on the same phone.

Is it possible that competitors block each other's numbers out? I find that hard to believe, and doesn't make much business sense, but seems to be the only logical explanation. I haven't had any problem calling any other number, just his and he is the only person I know that is using Voip that's not through Vonage.

Anyone seen this before?

Did he ever have Vonage, or did you ever have AT&T's Voip service? Were either of your numbers ported over to their Voip service?

Neither of us had Vonage in the past. I just got my Vonage number a month ago (brand new account/number). I believe he might have ported his number over from Qwest (regular POTS line), but that would have been years ago. He's had AT&T for as at least 2 years now.

Can your friend call any other Vonage subscribers? Getting a disconnect message could be the result of Vonage or one of its CLEC partners flagging his number as a test number for one reason or another. I have seen this happen every once in a while. I can check to see if any numbers are set as test numbers from where I work, so if you want to PM me both numbers I can check on their status for you and open a ticket to have them removed from test if needed.

I don't know of any other people other than me and him that use any kind of Voip service. I've already opened a ticket with Vonage, so I'm waiting on them.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but it has been rather hectic at work the past day or two. I checked both numbers for you and neither of them are set as test by Vonage or any of its CLEC's. The next step would be to get a debug log of you trying to make a call to this number. I believe someone from Vonage should be getting in touch with you as to this issue. I will try to follow up on it later in the week to make sure it gets resolved.

Yep - got an e-mail from a Vonage rep asking for an alternate number to call me at. Gave them my cell # and just waiting to hear back from Vonage now.
