It made a lot of difference.In call quality as well.Vonage are out of the VT 2442 and are giving the VWR for the same price as the VTA.

OK ...

I called tech support and was advised to:

Under Advanced > IP QoS
unclick Enable IPQoS
unclick Trusted Mode

Then Under Advanced > Port Forwarding
Click DMZ
click enable DMZ
then click Lan Clients and Reserve the addresses for each of my computers.

I haven't done this yet because I'm not clear what this does to my network. I tried to understand what the Tech was saying but the connection was not that good so I had trouble hearing him.

Basically, I believe he was saying that this doesn't put my network in any sort of risk and will just make everything work. I don't like answers like that especially when it comes to network security. Before I take these steps I want to understand exactly what this has changed, why it will make things better, and what risks I will incur making this change. The tech guy was not able to answer these questions for me.

I have heard of DMZ and understood it to be a less secure area. My thought is that this change will make my entire network a DMZ taking down a firewall. I like firewalls they make me feel warm and fuzzy. My second thought was maybe the Modem has a firewall so its ok if I have a DMZ behind the modems firewall. Then, perhaps the reason I was having issues was the fact that I had two firewalls between my comp and the internet. But ... all this is conjecture about something I only barely understand. Help?

With Comcast now for 2 days and things are so much better now. Have not lost one call and everytime the phone rings their is a person on the other end rather than deadair. My kids can play their games online and I can download without dropping phone calls. Maybe a few more bucks but they have more services and the call quality is 120% better.

i was having the some problem for the last month while having that router. every other page would timeout, router would even overload itself and reboot. i tried everything from port forwarding / dmz / ipqos.. no luck. then i found the solution.

log into your router.. (192.168.15.1) .. then goto "Setup" .. then "LAN Configuration" .. and find the "Assign ISP DNS,SNTP" and check that box. "Save" and do a ipconfig /renew in cmd ... that just makes it so the dumb router doesn't try being your nameserver and let's your ISP nameservers do the work; like the way it's suppose to be.

Finally a simple logical solution. Scerruti's suggestions were right on track, I just wasn't sure what to do to fix it ... now I do!! I was certain there was some setting like this that I was not able to find. I have made the adjustment and everything has been working fine. Hopefully, that's it. Thank you kurrier!

Nine days on Comcast Digital Voice and all is well. No dropped calls, they can hear us and we can hear them everytime. No more "Page Not Found" and so on. Glad to see you all got your stuff fixed but thats a lot of work to do just to be happy. I just plugged everything in, turned it all on and I was going. No settings to change or alter just to make it work the way it supposed to.

the other suggestion would be to simply just put the Vonage router behind a m0n0wall ( http://m0n0.ch/wall/ ) router. it can handle the port forwarding and QoS for Voip very well. i haven't had a problem with it yet.
