PostPosted: Wed Aug 16, 2006 8:58 pm    Post subject: Vonage VoIP and PF QoS (OpenBSD) Reply with quote Back to top

Here's a pf.conf for those using OpenBSD (or FreeBSD) as a firewall and need bandwidth control. I'm sure you're not like me as I've got to squeeze everyone bit out of a 256Kb cablemodem in a third world country. If you are, this will prioritize your Voip so that it sounds perfect. I even tested it with two Voip phone lines at the same time, one at 30kbs and the other at 90kbs and web surfing. The surfing was slow, but the calls were great!

BTW I've tried to get IPCop to do this for me for some time with no success. Both QoS and QoS_nr failed me.

Here goes and good luck:
/etc/pf.conf

extif="fxp0"
intif="fxp1"
low_pri = "{ ftp-data ftp www https }"
# Vonage SIP & RTP ports
voip_ports = "{ 5060 5061 10000:20000 }"

set block-policy return
set loginterface $extif

set skip on lo

scrub on $extif reassemble tcp no-df random-id

# QoS stuff
altq on $extif priq bandwidth 240Kb queue { std_out, voip_out tcp_ack_out \
low_pri_out }

# define the parameters for the child queues.
# std_out - the stanard queue, any filter rule befow that does not
# explicitly specity a queue will have its traffic added
# to thie queue.
# voip_out - Voip
# tcp_ack_out - TCP ACK packets wit no data payload.
# low_pri_out - stuff of low priority (www, ftp, etc)

queue std_out priority 4 priq (default)

# enable queueing on the internal interface to control traffic coming in
