I love this forum!

I am moving from Manhattan and have Verizon DSL. I do not care if the Verizon cancels my DSL ( I will switch to cable at my new house ). I have signed up for Vonage but have not filled out my LOA. I will be moving in 6 weeks and pose the following questions:

1) If I fill out the LOA will my DSL be canceled immediatly or will that also take " a min of 20 days"?

2) When should I submit my LOA?

3) What are my chances of sucess?

I think the key is... how much do you want to keep your phone number? Assuming you want to keep your phone number, I would either try to get the transfer to Vonage before or after your move... not during your move. Personally, I would wait until after the move as the transfer could take a week or it might take 6 months.

I would make sure you get the DSL off your line before doing anything as I think that sometimes it is a pain in the butt to get off. Else if you wait to go to Vonage until after you move, then just make sure your new location doesn't have DSL.

Thanks for the help with the LOA. I just filled out the form and have my fingers crossed. Hopefully this will happen as fast as some of the others in this forum.

If you still have DSL on the line, then you might be in for some problems. I don't have DSL... but this guys puts a good post out there that you might want to read.

If everything goes correctly then it should be automatic. If for some reason you do not receive a final bill from Verizon then you should contact them to cancel, but you shouldn't have to.

If they sent you an email that says the 25th, then there is a 99% chance that it will actually happen on this day. That email indicated that they received a FOC(Firm Order Confirmation) date from your carrier. This is the date Verizon agrees to release your number to Vonage and once it is agreed on the transfer is pretty much all set up. Barring anything strange happening you should be talking on that number on the 25th for sure.

As for the DSL, if it is linked to the same number you are porting over then I couldn't imagine it staying active. I believe you will definitely be losing it at that time.

I would call them after the number is ported to verify they show your acocunt as cancelled. A 5 min call might save you months of headaches. I had MCI and they cancelled my long distance, but not my local. So I had to manually cancel that.
