Hi all,
I notice if you try and sign up now the options are a WiFi phone or one of two ATA's with routers.
What happend to the non router ATA (small black box with Vonage on it) that they released recently? has that gone already? |

Yes, I think it has. We had three and had to return one of them because it didn't work. Vonage sent a router as a replacement, which didn't work because it wasn't compatible with the wireless router we already had (and wanted to continue to use). Now they've sent a different type of router, which hopefully will work.
Unfortunately, it's taken them over 8 weeks to do this. They send the initial adapter very quickly, but if you ever need a replacement, don't hold your breath .... |

I ordered the D Link VTA (black box) initially as neither the website nor telesales explained that I'd need a router. Fortunately I found out just in time and they substituted my order with a Linksys combo unit.
I complained to Trading Standards that the Vonage ads were misleading, implying that no router was required. What they were doing was being very literal in the ads - yes, you could just plug it in and dial, what you can't do with the D Link is use your PC at the same time. I won my complaint in the sense that Vonage refunded the extra cost. |

I have the D-Link VTA and I connected it directly to my cable modem and was able to place and receive calls with no problems. I did this as a test when I was having some voice quality issues to eliminate the router. It worked fine. |

Were you able to use your PC to browse the Internet through your modem at the same time? |

Stan,
You misunderstand me.
You are right, the D Link works fine connected to the cable modem. If like me you don't own a router then you have to choose between having your PC or your phone hooked up to it. I can only speak as a UK customer when I say that Vonage really pushed the D Link but did not make it clear that simultaneous use with PC/phone was not possible with this unit without a router. |

I did misunderstand, if you want to use both Vonage and a PC with the D-Link VTA, you need a router. |
