It's pretty easy to figure out that downloading something via bit torrent or playing an online game that otherwise uses a lot of bandwidth will make using the Voip service difficult or impossible because you won't have the available resources to dedicate to the phone.
However, I'm experiencing dropped calls or callers complaining that they can't hear me when someone in the house even opens up a web browser. I'm getting sufficient bandwidth from my ISP and this shouldn't be a problem.
According to bandwidthplace.com

I'm getting:

3.5 megabits per second
Communications 3.5 megabits per second
Storage 430.1 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 2.4 seconds
Subjective rating: Awesome

Is there something that I can do to improve the quality of my Voip service? Or perhaps is it the frequency of my 5.8 GHz cordless phone?

Also I'd like to know if anyone has noticed significant impact to call quality with the use of wireless routers. How easy would it be for my calls to be intercepted by a third party with the use of a wireless router?

EDIT

1. Your location =Kentucky
2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc)=Insight Broadband/cable
3. Upload and download speeds=see above
4. Modem make and model=Linksys Etherfast
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie =RTP300
6. Setup of Network=Cable -->router---->Vonage adapter
_____________________________--->PC
7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls=see above
8. Run this Voip Test:Download 3,843,448 bps
Upload 364,688 bps
QOS 99%
RTT 37 ms
MaxPause 25 ms

Please take a look at this sticky post at the top of the forum and update you post with this information.

This will allow those that are trying to help to get a better picture of your situation.

Just so answer some of what you have detaild.

No, the 5.8GHz cordless phone should not interfere, although I would post the specific model in case others have experience with it. 2.4GHz cordless phones can interfere with wireless connections since it is the same frequency as wireless B & G routers.

You are right that your subjective rating isn't bad, but those tests aren't complete when trying to test a Voip connection or quality issue.

Where many people have problems is their upload speed. None of the data you have detailed shows the quality of that connection and this is how your voice gets to users on the other side of the phone.

What is your router make and model?

I know I have a Linksys WRT54GX4 and I had many problems with it at first because of the firmware version. It was basically treating the Voip connection like a denial of service attack and dropping many of the packets.

Looking at least at the summary results it looks like your connection is OK, but if you could provide the data in the Advanced section of the results it will give people more data.

The detailed results aside, one common issue even with good connection is making sure that the Voip device connection gets a higher priority. This is called Quality of Service, or QoS for short.

Many newer routers have a QoS section where you can give priority to certain types of traffic, or certain devices. There are also external devices that do this, especially for the upstream connection. I personally use a Hawking Broadband Booster (HBB1), but this was mostly because my previous router didn't have QoS.

One of the members on this site, NateHoy, has a site with some of these items for the router configuration that you should check out.
