1. Your location
Greensburg, PA

2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc)
Comcast cable

3. Upload and download speeds
Don’t know where to find these
3. Modem make and model
Scientific Atlanta DPC2100 series

4. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2
Motorola vt2442
5. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
Modem->vt2442->COMPUTER

6. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc
Ok got Vonage a little over a week ago and had the temporary number set up while my regular number was ported over. Everything ran smoothly at set up. I was able to use the internet and make clear calls. Monday I get notice that my number will be ported over on Tuesday. On Tuesday, all the lights on the vt2442 are different – only power and ethernet 1 are lit and they are a yellow-orange. Instructions from Vonage state that I may have to reboot everything following their directions and the problems should clear up. Tried that about 25 times now. VT2442 is no longer getting an internet signal and therefore I do not get a dial tone. My internet still works great when I take the vt2442 out of the equation. I’ve tried swapping ethernet cables. Nothing I do seems to make the Vt2442 work again. I tried calling customer support and spoke to someone who basically suggested everything I had already tried. I cannot call them back as I did not have problems until my number ported over and now I have no phone service going on 4 days. I scanned through 14 pages of past posts here and did not see anything like this. I also tried accessing the vt2442 setup by entering that IP address in the web browser but the computer does not even seem to recognize that the vt2442 is there anymore. Is there any help/hope out there for me? I would be certainly willing to post anything else that might help.

i think its just a matter of physical connection - i dnt see any reason why u cant access the router's page so long as u have all connections right. can u make sure the ethernet cable connection from ur modem to the internet port of ur router is intact? light is supposed to flash if so. i think that the reason why u cant get ur phone light to lit up is because u dnt get any light on internet port

its imperative that u check if the internet port of vt2442 is wrkng fine

did u try to check if u have ip address by typing the ipconfig /all commnd?

also the number transfer issue has nothing to do w/ losing ur phone service as long as u have plugged the telephone on the right port(2 where ur phone line has been assigned to)

Hey, thanks for the quick reply!

Don’t know if this helps but when I hook everything up as directed by Vonage (and logically for that matter) I get this message in the bottom of my computer

This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the internet or some network resources. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer.

I ran the Ipconfig/all – this is what I got:
Windows IP configuration
Host name……………………...: your-us67pi6luv
Primary dns suffix……………...:
Node type………………………: hybrid
IP routing enabled………………: no
WINS proxy enabled……………:no

Ethernet adapter local area connection
Connection-specific dns suffix……:
Description………………………...: realtek rtl8139 family pci fast ethernet NIC
Physcial address……………………: 00-10-DC-80-DA-26
Dhcp enabled……………………….: yes
Autoconfiguration enabled…………: yes
Autoconfiguration IP address………:169.254.32.131
Subnet mask………………………..: 255.255.0.0
Default gateway…………………….:

Again I did not change my setup from when the phone and internet was working. I also checked all the connections and they seem to be secure.

I assume that you also cycled power on the modem when you were going through the re-boot power, and applied power in the correct order- modem, wait, VT2442. Is this correct?

I'm concerned about he color of those lights. Yellow-orange on the ethernet 1 light just indicates a 10 MHz connection rather than the 100 MHz connection indicated by a green light. However, I don't know why it should be different from before. The power light is a bigger concern. The user manual only mentions green or red, and red means the unit needs to be re-booted. Yellow isn't even mentioned.

I'd try unplugging everything except the modem from the VT- phones, computers, etc.- and re-booting in the order I've indicated. If that doesn't get a green light on the power after a reasonable time, then I'm afraid you need to get back with customer support. Call 888 250 1799 and they should be able to get you directly to tier 2 support.

Thanks for your help. I have a solution for the weird color light for the power light. It was just the yellow-orange shining through from the ethernet 1 light. When I moved the ethernet cable to ethernet 4 there was no light at all coming from the power light. The only light that was on was from the solid yellow-orange light at ethernet 4. I guess I'll try and borrow a cell phone and call tier 2 tech support.

No power light at all? Ouch. That's definitely an issue with the VT2442. You need tech support.

Today I received the VT2442 and I have been victim to the no power "bug". Even after a full power cycle of both networking and clients it wouldn't light up. However....when power cycling I would remove the power adapter from the device, I have found when I unplug the device from the wall, then plug it back in I get full power. I have experienced no loss of service other than the device not having power and no quality problems. It seems to be a hardware problem possibly in the power supply or on the control systems that regulate voltage as most are digital these days ( just hunches I am by far no expert) and I would imagine with a few more post such as ours we could say they have a bona fide problem with the product.

hold it - u have no power light at all? nt even a blinkng one? did u try to use another power outlet? wt abt pressing the reset button? does that do anything at all?

i wouldnt blame the router just yet - it could be the power adapter itself - and also, did u mention ur ip address was 169.xxx.xx.xx.? that isnt a valid one, and the reason why u cant log in to the router's page is because u didnt have any default gateway.

the msg that says "limited or no connectivity at all" must be rid off -but ur main concern is to get the power light to lit up, otherwise, ur router is pretty mch doomed.

anowin: have u tried bypassing the router and directly hooked up cable modem to the computer? were u able to go onlne? u need to chcek if everything's fine w/o d Vonage router....

the auto configuration ip address ur talking abt is actually apipa (automatic assigning of ip address) and this only happens when there's soemthign wrong wth dhcp server...i dnt knw i may be wrong

if thats the case, check or call the manufacturer or someone who's good in computers if u need to reset the tcp/ip settings or seotmhing Exclamation

Yup, I have no power light at all but I do have a light – the ethernet 1 light glows. I have changed the outlet that I am using for the vt2442 and rechecked the connections on the power adapter. The reset button does nothing. I have seen various recommendations for holding it in for anywhere from 10 to 60 seconds to reset it.

So is there a way to change this or is this just a by-product of the vt2442 not giving me the right lights? The power adapter seems to be working as I do get the ethernet 1 light. However I get no internet, phone, or power lights now - even though we know the internet connection is fine.

Oh yes, I have been happily using the internet when I take the vt2442 out of the equation. I simply unplug the internet connection from the back of the vt2442 and put it right into my computer. Presto! So somewhere between the ethernet cable from the modem and my computer I lose the internet connection when the vt2442 is in the equation.
