My dial tone just goes away after a few hours each day. I have to keep unplugging my Vonage adapter and replugging it back in to get the dial tone back. What a pain!! Here are my details below...
1. Your location - Dallas, TX
2. Your ISP name and type - Cable/Comcast
3. Upload and download speeds - 768kbs (download)
4. Modem make and model - Motorola Surfboard SB 4220
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2 - D Link VTA
6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
7. Issue you are experiencing - Dropped dial tone
8. Run this VoIP Test: Test never stopped running |

If the forum test wouldn't work, make sure that you have the latest version of Java installed. If it still won't work, run a speed test at the regular Vonage site and a VoIP test at testyourvoip.com (test call to Boston).
Tell us a bit more about your network setup. The D Link VTA doesn't have any LAN ports on it, so how is your computer hooked into the setup? |

If you are in Dallas and using cable service, it is now Time-Warner not Comcast. It changed on 08/01. |

I had the same exact problem with Vonage. I was using SBC DSL and Motorola VT2442. I kept losing dial tone and kept having to reboot the Moto. My internet always worked and never went down. Just to let you know I'm also in the DFW area, Allen to be exact. All tests run had excellent results. So good in fact that people in this forum commented about them.
I gave up trying to conatct Vonage tech support. In fact this was the last straw for me with Vonage so I got rid of it. I sure hope you get your problem resolved. Dealing with Vonage is such a pain. Please let us know what the problem is if you ever get it fixed.

Steve, I hope this answers your question but my Vonage adapter is hooked to my Wireless router and phone. The cable modem hooks into the wireless router. |

Have you checked the Java version? It kept doing that with me until I updated it. Don't forget that alternate test at www.testyourvoip.com if you can't get the forum test running right.
I think I understand your network now. Is it possible for you to plug the D-link VTA directly into the modem for a few hours to see how it works there? When you lose dial tone, do you also use your internet connection?
Are there cordless phones in your setup? A mix of 2.4 GHz cordless phones and wireless routers can sometimes cause a problem. |

Nope. My modem has only one port for my main Internet line. (Can I buy a splitter for this?)
No, I don't lose my Internet when I lose the dial tone.
Yep, the phones are cordless but they are 5.8GHZ. I have the one with the extra handset. One handset is in my office and the other is in my living room. |

I have also recently started to have the same problem. I've been with Vonage since the beginning of January, and the problem just started within the last week.
Like the OP, my cable company recently switched to being Time Warner also (I used to have Adelphia).
This has happened several times now, always in the middle of a call. I haven't had much time to try and diagnose it yet, but when I saw the similar circumstances here, I thought I'd post. |

I don't have the dropped call problem. I just have the dial tone issue when I first attempt to use the phone. Once I finally make the call, the connection is fine. |
