Does it work? I can only see systems changes. I have the logging set to debug, and all i can see in the log is when i do system changes. Please tell me theis feature works. Why would the include the logging feature and not have it work. I have seen that some models, in fact, do not work.... |

I posted a similar forum question, concerning the WRTP54G, and it's logging capabilities. Nobody has replied to it yet, but from what I understand from doing some digging through Google, I don't believe this router (the WRTP54G) has proper logging built-in to it. It only logs the router setup commands, no router traffic info. Seems to be a lacking router in my opinion.
I asked the question, for the same reason. I wanted to be able to see the router traffic, and to see what was being blocked.
Seems the only option is to either switch routers entirely... or disable the "firewall" capability of the WRTP54G (make it DMZ), and rely on a better software firewall solution instead, which allows for proper logging. This was actually mentioned as an option for unsuportted routers, on the myNetWatchmen service. Probably the same idea could be used for WallWatcher.
If you went with the 2nd option (DMZ router settings, and using software firewall) just make sure to use a software firewall that you feel is secure and reliable.
For me, I've held off on this for now (logging router traffic). I hate having a router that forces you to blindly have faith in it, but I've kept the router firewall up, not wanting to go the DMZ method, and I have the software firewall behind it, in case anything got past that (or to mostly secure outgoing connections). |

This question comes up from time to time. Unfortunately, the WRTP54G does not have connection logging. The logs it sends are only system logs (system changes and major events). You aren't going to be able to change that.
True connection logging was a nice side benefit when I finally got a better router (WRT54GL w/aftermarket firmware) and put it in front of my WRTP54G. A more stable network and better voice quality were the main benefits.
The WRTP54G is an adequate low-end consumer router. However, for something like Voip, having non-working QoS (prioritization of voice over other network traffic) was a no-starter for me. My WRTP54G is now very happy and stable acting as a Vonage device only. |
