PostPosted: Wed Aug 09, 2006 12:30 am    Post subject: NO vonage service for 3 months and terrible customer service Reply with quote Back to top

Three months ago, I changed my number because of harrasing phone calls. Since then, I have not had service. I have the new number, but no service. I can log into my account, but I get no dial tone, and I can't send/receive phone calls.

At first, three months ago, i was able to get a dial tone, but any dialing out got me to a "fast busy" signal. Calls coming in would go straight to voicemail.

I work a lot, so time off is precious. I finally called in last week, and after being on the phone for 101 minutes, I stil was not at a solution. I have connected my computer to the router, changed a few settings, and even connected to the net through my Vonage router(I use 2 routers, and am normally not connected to it.) They tell me that my router is defective.

However, if that is true, that happened at the exact same time that my number changed. I can not fathom that.

I should have called ine earlier, but like I said, i work 3 jobs, so I am gone a lot. However, I need for this to work.

Do you think I'll ahve any luck getting my Vonage turned on? Any time I have called in, I have been stuck with the foreign customer care for the first 30 minutes, and afte that, finally connected with someone that I can understand.

They simply do not believe me hwen I tell them that I have unplugged and replugged the router and modem hundreds of times, and they tell me if I just do it one more time, it'll work.

What can I do?

The last 2 times I have talked to them, once in May, and once last week, I was told that I'd receive a phone call in 48 hours. I have not received one as of yet for either occurance.

I went to the Vonage website and emailed my complaint in, but havne't heard anything yet.

Do you think it would help me if I were to contact the Better Business Bureau?

We may be able to help you here (at least with getting your Vonage line connected, we can't do anything about their customer service), depending on the nature of the problem. The forum FAQ has a section that describes what you can post to give us enough information to help you, or you can read the "sticky" thread entitled "What to post when you are having technical trouble with Vonage".

In addition to the above information, please check the following:

1. If your Vonage device has an Internet light, is it lit?
2. Is your PHONE light lit?
3. Have you plugged a simple, wired phone directly into the Vonage device and tried it?
4. Have you tried a factory reset (for most devices, pressing and holding the RESET button for 30 seconds with the power on will do a factory reset)?

Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.

To answer your questions,

1. Yes, the internet light is lit.
2. No, the phone light is not lit.
3. Yes I have, and have no dial tone at all.
4. Yes, many times.

According to Vonage, my router has not hit their server since May, but, I know it works, becuase it is connected to the net.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

OK, now read the sticky thread and post all the requested information, please. That will tell us what device you have, how your Internet connection looks, etc, and someone might have enough information to chime in.

No guarantees, of course... Smile

I finally have service restored!

It was a firmware issue.

What stunk is that it took TONS of phone calls to get it sorted out!

Glad you got it sorted. I wasn't coming up with any possibilities, since your Internet connection is pretty darned good. Wink

This is a horrible device. There are just so many things wrong with it that they break if you so much as look at it the wrong way. Vonage has stopped sending them out and is replacing broken RTP31P2's with RTP300's. I have seen so many of the voice portion of these routers just stop working all together for no apparent reason, some can be fixed by firmware flashes as yours was, others just become a nice paperweight for your desk.
